Four Poster Beds Add Style to Any Bedroom

Architectural Digest photo: Peter Estersohn

Good morning, chic readers! We hope you had a terrific weekend and are ready to start a wonderful week ahead. We don’t know about you, but we love Valentine’s Day. Or not even really the day so much as the whole Valentine’s season.

All the red and pink and gold glitter hearts and chocolate and wine everywhere. Everything for Valentine’s Day is so cute and chic and stylish now. This bedding is the perfect Valentine’s Day red…

And this one is the perfect Valentine’s Day pink! We still remember being kids and and coming home with a huge bag full of paper Valentine’s sporting sappy sayings, some with candy, some with other Valentine’s trinkets. You never knew what you were going to find. It was wonderful!

What’s even better is the fabulous four poster beds. We don’t think many things add a sense of presence in a room quite like a substantial bed.

Black with a touch of gold is an ever-elegant combination that adds so much style to a bedroom.

A beautiful four-poster like this fills up a larger bedroom with taller ceilings and accentuates the graceful roofline. It’s perfection! The pair of chests is perfectly proportioned too.

The four poster bed is incredibly versatile and, in a dark shade like this, is great for a boy’s bedroom–from toddler to teen and beyond.

Far from basic, four poster beds come in a variety of styles, sizes and materials to suit any bedroom space. We love everything about this beautiful bedroom!

Are you a fan of four poster beds? Wishing you a wonderful Valentine’s Day, no matter what you’re doing!

In Good Taste:Park and Oak Design

Even their name conjures good feelings. Park and Oak Design. It sounds like a firm that brings the outdoors in. That creates simple yet beautiful design schemes that feel totally livable.

It’s kind of like judging a book by its cover. You’re really not supposed to but, sometimes, the cover does give you a really accurate glimpse into what the book is about.

In this case, we judged a firm by its name. And like that book cover, it did give us a pretty accurate glimpse into what was to come.

If we had to pick one word to describe Oak and Park Design, we think we’d choose… airy. (It’s hard to choose one word, especially when you’re used to getting 85,000 to describe things.)

There’s a minimalistic air about this firm’s work that we find incredibly appealing and totally refreshing.

A modern streak runs through all of these designs that pairs well with traditional touches.

And you know how we love our subway tile!

We love how simple this kitchen is. You can never go wrong with black, white and a touch of natural fiber.

It took us a while to warm up to the idea, but we are now big fans of mixing metals. This kitchen is case and point!

These pendants are perfection.

Speaking of pendants, this is one of our favorites. It’s even more stunning in real life!

Saarinen tables are always a favorite. Sleek, modern and totally functional, they’re a great pick for a breakfast room, especially one that isn’t huge.

The right combination of high and low, rustic and modern, this gorgeous bathroom is the perfect mix of favorite elements blended together in just the right way.

A great wallpaper can totally make a bathroom. We love the vintage feel of this marble sink. The simplicity of these fixtures is a perfect complement to the fun wallpaper. All in all, we think you’ll agree that the work of Park and Oak is in good taste. Which is your favorite room?

We hope you’re having a great day and staying warm!

In Good Taste: Suzanne Kasler

entrance

When it comes to good taste, there’s no one that has it knocked quite like Suzanne Kasler

homes

Always the epitome of grace, elegance and style, Kasler’s homes have a sense of purpose about them. They tell a story.

refined

Never too stuffy, but always refined, these are the rooms that we go back to again and again to study and learn and fall in love with something new at every turn.

collected

We love the feeling of a room being collected, of it coming together over time, and, though we are sure that there has been a time Kasler purchased everything in a room at once, her rooms always have that collected feeling.

painting

But, at the same time, they never take themselves too seriously. A throw for a chilly day, a whimsical painting…

abstract-art

Abstract art is always the right choice for infusing a room–even a otherwise staid one–with humor and whimsy. (We spy our FAVORITE tray from Anna by RabLabs on the coffee table!

neutrals

Kasler knows that, when it comes to doing neutrals well, texture is the name of the game. Each of these is more luscious than the next.

light

Bright, light and with the perfect, unexpected palette.

doors

This room is almost too good! Perfection in every single way! Have you ever, ever seen windows and doors quite this amazing?

accessorizes

The beauty is so often in the details, as with this chic vignette. But Kasler never over accessorizes, which, in our New Year, clutter-free state of mind we really appreciate!

Even the ceiling is a work of art! Dining rooms can sometimes feel a little too stiff and heavy. The color play in this room keeps it from feeling too formal.

dining

Who needs an island when you can gather family around a real dining table? Lovely!

bedrooms

We love all of Suzanne Kasler’s rooms. Really, we do. But the bedrooms?

dreamy

They are positively dreamy. They actually make you want to curl up and go to sleep. It’s genius.

glamour

This dressing area is so feminine and delicate, with the right amount of glamour to make getting ready as much fun as the event itself!

outdoor

This is the kind of outdoor space that has us dreaming of getting outside. With a fireplace that lovely you can do just that, no matter the weather.

We hope that, no matter the weather where you are, your 2017 is off to a fabulous start!

When it comes to cooking and prepping and organizing, few things are as useful as a beautiful kitchen island.

It’s where we’ll prepare Christmas Eve dinner, our traditional “Company Chicken,” brown rice (the kind with the butter and consumme, not the healthy kind), biscuits, marinated asparagus and yummy rocky road fudge.

Maybe most fun of all, the island is where we’ll create cookies for Christmas Eve and beyond.

But there comes a time when we all have to realize that, sometimes, looking good isn’t the most important thing. To that end I had the pleasure of visiting Your Carolina yesterday to talk about creating a wonderful kids’ table for the holidays. We had the best time! Take a peek!

From Our House to Yours…

It’s almost here! It’s almost here! We had the best time at family Christmas #1 yesterday. Lots of food and lots of fun. The snowball slingshot launchers were by far the biggest hit with boys 4-7. Thank goodness the snowballs were fabric, as it was 80 degrees here! As you can see, the stockings are hung by the chimney, just waiting for Santa to arrive…

And the table is reset and ready for more Christmas cheer….

What will our family be getting in their stockings? Photo books from Mixbook, of course!  This photo of little Will and my dad, his Howdy, just watching the boats go by. It’s such a reminder of how those simple, small moments add up to something really big.

You know we’re huge fans of gold… and calligraphy… and there were so many chic themes to choose from!

I make these every single year for our families, and, without a doubt, this was the easiest, quickest and most beautiful book I’ve ever made.

fullsizerender-1

All I did was gather my photos, and let Mixbook’s autofill option take over. Usually, this ends up being a nightmare, but, in the interest of research, I decided to try it out. It was wonderful! I switched just a couple of photos that I wanted to be on the largest pages and that was all! The result was fabulous–and took me maybe thirty minutes tops, including the time it took to gather my pictures. Some years, this is a project that takes hours on end.
