Things We Love: Piece & Palette

Piece + Palette dining room

When it comes to creating a fabulous home, we don’t know about you, but we love finding things that can simplify our design process. So, when we stumbled across a gorgeous new site that does just that, Piece + Palette, we were intrigued right away!

Piece + Palette sitting room

Not only are Marisa, Jen and Lauren three best girlfriends from NC but these ladies have style and a concept that is totally unique and, if you ask us, totally brilliant!

Piece + Palette dining

They created Piece+Palette to simplify the design process in multiple ways. For one, many of the rooms you see on this post (plus tons more!) are available on their site to shop, in whole or piece by piece. You can literally snag an entire room, which, frankly, sounds amazing, or choose a palette and pick pieces to create a customized room.

Piece + Palette living room

If that sounds overwhelming, no need to worry! Interior designer Lauren Burns is on hand to answer questions along the way. You can actually upload pictures of your specific space and get Lauren’s advice on whether they will work.

Or, if you have a specific questions about something that’s been puzzling you–like, whether the light fixture you’ve been eyeing on Piece+Palette is too big for your room–you can get expert advice right away!

Piece + Palette kitchen

Such a huge, huge help when it comes to taking the guesswork out of creating a beautiful, functional room.

Piece + Palette sitting area

If you’ve ever stood in the Benjamin Moore store with 200 blue paint chips in your hand, you know, like we do, that paint colors can be tricky! Benjamin Moore sends high res photos of the paints used in Piece+Palette designer rooms that Lauren has designed, and, better yet, these lovely ladies match paint colors to fabrics they offer on the website.

Piece + Palette pillows

As if that weren’t enough, Lauren is also on hand to give color advice. If you’ve ever painted and entire room only to realize that you meant to have a warm gray but you got lavender, you can imagine how invaluable this advice is!

Piece + Palette flowers

These ladies all have different tastes and styles that are represented on the site, but they always agree on these three key principles:

Piece + Palette porch

  1. Just because it’s expensive, that doesn’t make it fabulous!
  2. Quality over quantity…always, always, always!
  3. Be unique!  Make your home your sanctuary and a reflection of yourself and what you and your family love.

We couldn’t agree any more… If you’re looking for a summer spruce, stop by and see our new southern friends at Piece+Palette!

What People are Saying About Slightly South of Simple:

“Kristy Woodson Harvey really knows how to tell a southern tale. Every single time her stories unwind gently, like a soft wind in Georgia, then that wind catches you off guard and throws you into her characters’ tumultuous lives. Slightly South of Simple is the same. One gracious, old home inherited from Grandma, one mother who has so many secrets if the walls talked they would pour out like lemonade on a hot summer day, and three headstrong sisters, all working their way through the chaotic mess and joy of life, together. I loved it.” (–New York Times bestselling author Cathy Lamb )

Creating a Kitchen that is the Heart of the Home

Elmira Appliances in kitchen with wood beams

Denash Photography, designed by Jenny Rausch

We all know that the kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s obvious, really. We don’t know about you, but we feel like, no matter how we try to make the living room enticing and sunroom chic, everyone always wants to congregate in our kitchen!

Elmira Appliances

In that way, we think the kitchen sets the tone for the rest of the house. Is it formal? Cozy? Casual and fun? Whatever feeling guests get when they walk in the door is probably the one that will stick with them. That’s why we always think that, when it comes to design, kitchens should get a lot of love!

There’s nothing quite like a pop of color to infuse life and personality into a room, and there are so many ways in a kitchen to add an accent.

Of all the ways to add a little fun, we think these retro appliances might be the very best! They instantly set the tone for the rest of the room–and the home.

This blue is one of our very favorite Elmira Stove Works shades. It’s bright, bold and perfect for making a statement.  We would love these appliances anywhere, but we can really see them at the beach!

Maybe it’s because the early Spring fever has gotten the best of us, but we are loving yellow these days. It’s one of our favorite refreshing shades and is made for the kitchen.

White appliances are back in in a big way, but why go basic when you can have appliances that are super chic?

These Elmira appliances are just the right amount of retro–with modern functionality, of course–to add a vintage flair.

From antique to retro to contemporary, Elmira Stoveworks has the right collection to help you create your dream kitchen. What’s your favorite shade we showed? The blue, the yellow or the white?

After weeks of high sixties and mid-seventies temperatures here, it has finally gotten cold. We’ll never quite understand North Carolina weather, how it is seventy-five and then, all of a sudden, with no warning, you wake up and it’s thirty-two and it stays that way for months. But, it actually makes us kind of excited, the cold weather.
