Magical Garden Parties

Garden Party with Carolyne Roehm

Good morning, chic readers! For those of you who celebrate, we hope you had a terrific Easter weekend! It is almost impossible to believe that I leave today for the Slightly South of Simple tour–and my first event is tomorrow! (But don’t worry. The book doesn’t release until April 25, so there’s still time to pre-order from your favorite store to have your copy in hand on launch day!)

After months of planning and plotting, and, yup, you guessed it, packing, we are ready to take this five weeks by storm!

A garden party seemed appropriate for today for a number of reasons, not the least of which that it is spring, spring, spring and there is no better season to be outdoors and take the time to implement those special touches.

But another reason that it’s appropriate is because my first event tomorrow is speaking to the fabulous Talisman Garden Club in Spartanburg, SC.

The event will be held at the beautiful Piedmont Club, which the stunning Montgomery House, an 1893 Queen Ann with quite a bit of history, was converted into.

Many of the original rooms–including the fabled ballroom–are not open to the public, but I’m going to see if I can finagle (or sneak… whatever…) in there and get a peek for all of you! If you don’t follow us on Instagram–@kristywharvey–make sure to start. I’ll be sharing lots of fun video and photo coverage of the stunning homes we’ll be touring as a part of the SSoS tour!

Either way, there is nothing more southern than starting a book tour in an historic home converted to a beautiful club and dining and speaking with a group of women who put a strong emphasis on beauty and culture.

I bet those ladies know how to throw a garden party!

These pictures might just be inspiration enough for throwing some of our own this summer, but, just in case, we can’t wait to hear some of these lovely ladies’ best tips for creating a garden party in style

Mint juleps (or Antebellum Juleps as we’re having at some of my outdoor events!) and sweet tea are a must, of course.

And colorful blooms straight from the garden can’t help but add charm galore.

We hope that 2017 has already given you plenty of reasons to celebrate. If not, take a peek at David Monn’s The Art of Celebrating. We promise you’ll want to invent a reason to celebrate immediately!

flowers

Flowers are one of the most important aspects of any party. Flowers in unique containers are our absolute favorites!

Of all the flowers and all the celebrations, we can probably all agree that wedding flowers are the most important and the most special.

We have a few weddings we’re especially looking forward to this year and this has us dreaming of how wonderful they are going to be.

It is the details that help make every celebration from the huge to the tiny. This unexpected wreath is the perfect accent.

dining

Setting the table is another one of our favorite parts of any celebration. From a grand banquet table to an intimate family dinner, a beautiful table setting makes every day feel special.

entertaining

New takes on old favorites can make a look feel totally fresh. We’re loving this chicly shaded fruit bowl!

blue-and-white

Oh, the things you can do with ice… And moss!

lanterns

Chinese lanterns can’t help but add a festive feel to any event, from casual to formal. This color scheme is perfect for fall!

cake

You can never go wrong with adding a hint of fresh to any tablescape. Fruit is a fun twist on basic flowers.

pool

Can you say, “Pool party!” This is the ultimate in New England chic. As if we weren’t longing for summer, this has made us want it back even more! For even more gorgeous events, don’t miss David Monn’s The Art of Celebrating It is a must-have for any well-rounded coffee table book collection.
