Hold onto your hats, one room challengers! We are so excited to be participating in our first ever One Room Challenge, hosted by the fabulous, lovely and amazing Linda from Calling it Home. Thanks so much for having us, Linda! You may need to shield your eyes on the next couple of photos. Because redoing this kitchen is going to be a bit of a project, to say the least…

Basically no natural light, five layers of linoleum tile, crumbling plywood cabinets and faux-wood paneling… It’s really hard to choose a favorite thing about this “before” kitchen.

The attached laundry/storage room is also a real gem.

Full disclosure: We were a bit worried about completing such a huge task in six, short weeks. So the demo has begun… which is how we know there were five layers of linoleum.

But, we think you’ll probably agree that simply tearing everything apart was a huge improvement.

If you’re laughing right now, we don’t blame you. We are fully aware that turning the eyesore above into something with this feeling is going to be a stretch… But fabulous transformations are what the one room challenge is all about!

Double farmhouse sinks aren’t realistically in our budget, but we do love the idea of having two sinks in the kitchen. We are definitely planning on white marble and simple cabinetry.

And we’re looking forward to having a beautiful center island as a prep area and breakfast bar.

Of course, we need to bring in the light! Windows, windows, windows! We were planning an entire wall of French doors across the back, but the good old budget got us on that one. Instead, we’re going to opt for large windows and put that money into fabulous appliances.

The laundry room is making a move to the upstairs, so there has been a bit of consternation over what the laundry room will become. Our vote? Chaise room!

Where else in your life do you ever get to have a fabulous spot for a couple of chaises, a gorgeous throw, maybe a little abstract art… Stay tuned. If it becomes a room of wall-to-wall fishing equipment and kayak storage, you’ll know we’ve lost the battle!

Please make sure to stop by and check out our friends who are also participating in the One Room Challenge! We know you probably know each of these inspirational bloggers well. We can’t wait to share this journey with all of them!
