Week five. And we’re starting to forget what the old, green, linoleum-filled, windowless kitchen looked like. But, at the same time, we’re starting to question whether this one is ever going to come together! (This is Danny… he has basically lived here these past five weeks, so we thought he may as well be in the pictures!)
We’re thrilled with the cabinets, the knobs, the windows, the floors… But, as you may notice, there is a lack of loveliness in that soffit that needs to be addressed, and, yes, we still have the wrong sinks and counters. Sigh. We are assured that they are going to be changed. Here’s hoping it’s by next week!
In other news, the dishwasher came in. And guess what? It wasn’t a dishwasher. It was a tiny dryer. And the dishwasher we wanted is no longer in stock. So, looks like it’s new dishwasher time. On the bright side, we adore these pendants. We were going to go with the large white ones with the gold inside that we showed a couple of weeks ago. But we thought these looked a little more industrial and submarine-ish.
And we love the subway tile! We’re big fans of it and think it will really pull this look together. Once the countertops are white, not gray, of course. And you can see the glass fronts in the cabinets here, which we also love!
Another view. Of the wrong counters and lack of dishwasher.
Here’s the other side of the island. After much ado and lost sleep, we’re glad we decided to go with the legs on the island. That was not what we were originally thinking, but we think it looks good! And it’s nice to be able to sweep underneath there. You can see the side of the fridge peeking out on the side over there and… a few minutes later…
Installed! Just in time for the pictures… Yay! And, it fits. Given the other problems, we’re going to call that a big time win. In pendant news, we’ve decided that we like it better without the glass at the bottom. Don’t you think?
So, between now and next week, we need new countertops, these sinks, the soffit molding, blinds, pictures hung, the rest of the appliances, the bar stools… Just a few minor details. All we know is that no one should plan on sleeping or doing any weekend-related activities. Remodeling may not be seamless, but it sure is fun! And we’d say that our kitchen is already looking about seventy-five percent better!
