When House Beautiful speaks, we tend to listen. So, after they named Sara Gilbane one of the Top 20 Designers Next Wave Designers, we’ve been watching to see what she creates! And we’d say they were right on. This gorgeous hand painted grasscloth wallpaper by artist Brian G. Leaver is just the beginning.

This talented designer combines fun and livability with the ultimate in style to create homes that are family friendly and chic.

And she’s so sweet that she let us interview her to share her insights with us!

Sara says that her work was most influenced by Jeffrey Bilhuber, Celerie Kemble, Markham Roberts, Miles Redd and Tom Scheerer. And we think it shows!

She describes her style as “warm, colorful, eclectic chic,” which, if we were asked, is probably just how we’d describe it as well! Her use of color feels friendly and approachable.

The beginning and end of a project are this designer’s favorite parts. “This is where my creativity really comes into play, and I believe this is what the client is paying for,” Gilbane said.

(We’re pretty partial to the “after” ourselves!)

Gilbane’s advice to those of us attempting to decorate our own homes?

1. “Go with your gut.”

2. “Find moments in your home to be bold.”

3. “Really think about how you will live in your space.”

Sounds like perfect advice to us! Thanks so much, Sara for sharing with us! We hope you’re getting ready for a fabulous day full of turkey and family. We’ll be around so make sure to stop by tomorrow and Friday. We’re going to do some digging, and we’ll have the scoop on all the best Black Friday sales! Enjoy your day!
