It’s the day before the big day! I can’t believe I’m even saying that. People say that having a book is like having a baby, but today feels more like the day before the wedding day. I can’t believe that, after all this time and all this talk and all this waiting, Dear Carolina hits shelves tomorrow! Hooray! Interior design is a main part of the novel, Khaki, one of the main character’s jobs and a major theme of the novel. (Check below for our amazing giveaway!)
And the homes in this book… Well, they’re pretty fabulous. This one made us think of Khaki’s mother and daddy’s house, where a good deal of the book takes place.
Khaki says, “When we pulled up to the end of Mother and Daddy’s driveway I took a moment to marvel at how the giant oaks, each of them having been there for centuries longer than the home itself, grew together into a green canopy, the ideal frame for the white plantation home that graced their ending.
I had an entirely new feeling about this house now, its white columns of Pantheonic proportion that were so quintessentially Southern.”
Khaki has just redesigned her mother and daddy’s home, freshened it for a new decade, lightened the mood and the spirit.
And we can’t help but think that some of these lovelies embody the feel of that home that is about to be the subject of her latest and greatest coffee table book of her work.
Some of Khaki’s best advice-getting of her whole life is in her mother and daddy’s kitchen at the knee of Pauline, the wise woman who practically raises her when her own mother seems to be unable to.
And we can just imagine Khaki growing up in an enchanted bedroom like this one — or at least re-doing it now for her own children to enjoy during sleepovers at her parent’s!
A soothing and beautiful master retreat will be just the right thing for Mr. and Mrs. Mason.
And Khaki’s mom, who loves life’s little luxuries — and came by the money to afford them in one of the worst possible ways — would certainly adore a steamy soak in this tub.
Khaki’s son Alex would certainly have a room of his own — or at least one to share with his cousins!
Any house with little ones running around must have some fun touches! These red stools are positively adorable and add that special pop of color. Check out Dear Carolina to learn more about its homes! With Mother’s Day just a few days away it’s the perfect Mother’s Day gift!
