There is nothing that makes you appreciate your home quite like leaving it. We moved out of our house for post-Hurricane Florence repairs a few weeks ago, and I’m already dreaming of moving back in. It’s about fifty percent gutted at the moment, but that’s progress…

One of my favorite parts of our 1903 house has always been the huge window seat in the bay window of our master bedroom.  It is one of the sunniest spots in the house and has the best view–and was one of the first things to be torn out after the storm. Despite our intricate boarding up process, the wind and water won.  Now that the window seat is gone, we realize how huge that space really is. And, as much as I love my window seat, I’m starting to question whether it’s wise to build it back.

This isn’t the first hurricane we’ve been through and it certainly won’t be the last–which makes the idea of a cozy master sitting area to replace the window seats very appealing.

We love the idea of having a sweet little space for morning coffee and late-night chats.

And there’s something luxurious about comfy, cushy upholstered items right in your master bedroom.

As would a love seat or, my personal favorite, a chic chaise. (Is there a limit to how many chaises you can have in a house before it starts to become overkill?)

But, then again, I could always rebuild those window seats…
