Some people dream of growing up and living in a huge, sprawling mansion, with cavernous rooms and tons of space.

But others–like us–are partial to a simple cottage by the sea.

A white picket fence is mandatory,

A shingled exterior is a plus,

And a sweet shutter color (like on Frances Schultz’s former beloved Bee Cottage), is icing on the cake.

Window boxes and a Carolina blue door would be mandatory on our charming cottage,

And a little bit of age and history makes it all the better.

Porch swings and idyllic cottages seem to go together like peas and carrots,

And while the traditional basics are always in style, a few out of the ordinary touches like a yellow door,

Or these fun and festive paper lanterns, simply add to a cottage’s signature style. Which of these dreamy cottages would you choose?

Such cute cottages! I love the ones with a coastal vibe and dream to live in one that Patrick Ahearn designed! I spotted a bunch of his homes in Martha’s Vineyard a couple years ago…perfection! Have a great week!

all of the cottages are so dreamy and beautiful!
I’m with you! Give me a cottage over a mansion any day. I love the wonkiness of a cottage and especially when unexpected colors are used like this sweet little pumpkin colored cottage when we lived in Fairhope!
