Bathed in Blue

Windsor Smith Home

Happy Friday, friends! First, we’re so sorry about the issues we’ve been having on our blog lately and the pictures being slow to load. We have some great people working on it, and hope that it will all be fixed by Sunday. (Seriously this time…)

AND, I have some exciting news! I (Kristy) recently signed a book deal with Berkley, an imprint of Penguin Random House, and my first novel will be out early next Spring! Yay! I probably don’t even have to tell you that the main character is an interior designer! So, to counteract our slow blog problems, we’re posting the rest of “Bathed in Blue” over at my new blog! There are some gorgeous blue and white photos (and a great quote!) that you won’t want to miss!

It won’t take the pictures long to download and you can let me know what you think of my new author site. (Shari at Little Blue Deer is working on it!) You are, after all, my most stylish friends! And, don’t worry. The new book/blog won’t affect Design Chic one bit! We hope you all have an amazing weekend!

In all shades, shapes, sizes and spaces, there are likely few color combinations as well loved, timeless and versatile.

Even just a hint of blue is enough to liven a white space. These fun pendants and fabric add so much interest to this pretty kitchen.

And then, in the next room over it’s just as soft and soothing and lovely. And that’s what we think we love about it so much. It’s the perfect color combination to spread throughout a home, combine in coordinating tones and create a different feel in every space.

At the end of the day, blue and white is just fun! Maybe it’s because it’s reminiscent of the sand and ocean and sky — and this fabulously, frighteningly fun convertible!

In one breath, blue and white can be a throwback, reminiscent of a simpler time, as cozy and warm as an old stone hearth.

Then, in the next, it can be a whimsical yet ultimately calming tented room.

There’s no doubt that blue and white out the window is our favorite. But this stunning frock is a pretty close second!

In Good Taste: The Enchanted Home

We are absolutely THRILLED to have the fabulous Tina of The Enchanted Home with us today.  As avid fans since her first post, we have loved following the journey of the building and decorating of her amazing new home, and her latest venture, the opening of her online store, chock full of treasures. From linens to art to silver and even kitchenware, Tina’s choices are always, unsurprisingly, classic, beautiful and a little bit unique — just like she is!  Since Tina’s blog is a daily “must” for us, we know her love for blue and white and are so happy that she’s sharing it with us. Thank you, Tina!

Good morning! I am so happy to be here, I adore Kristy and Beth, don’t they have such amazing style, true flair and gorgeous taste? I am a big big fan of theirs and of their  blog which always promises something fabulous and leaves me smiling. Love their eye! Anyone who knows me knows of my love for blue and white, so today it seemed fitting that  I dedicate this post to decorating with blue and white, namely porcelains. The possibilities are limitless with this wonderful element, truly I think blue and white works in virtually any kind of room, be it a bedroom, living room, bathroom or kitchen.
You are not limited to just using it for traditional rooms…it works as well in transitional or even more modern spaces too. I am a big fan and collect it…it certainly always has a welcome place in my home. So to  highlight its versatility I am showing different spaces that have effectively used blue and white as an accent and then how I like to use it in my own home….hope you enjoy! What do you think about decorating with blue and white? Do you have it in your own home?

One of my favorite dining rooms by Cathy Kincaid shows how fabulous touches of blue and white in an otherwise monochromatic room can be!

Who would have thought  about adding so much blue and white to a bathroom, but the effect is just fabulous! Martha Stewart

A fabulous dining room with a healthy dose of stunning blue and white, Knotting Hill
Against all white, its quite spectacular! Country Living
Clearly Oscar de La Renta is also a fan!
It sure makes a beautiful and elegant theme for a party! Whitney Fairchild
Ashley Whittaker uses a pair of garden stools in a more transitional space beautifully
Using it in outdoor setting is equally beautiful, and mixed with vibrant colors…the effect is stunning!

For Easter breakfast, of course I used yep…more blue and white!
And my kitchen island always has an abundance of blue and white……
Phew…….blue and white overload! But to me, there no such thing as too much. I believe that blue and white is one of those timeless classics, it never goes “out” and is always very much in. It happens to be riding quite the wave of popularity at the moment but if you look back even decades ago you will see in the grand old homes, plenty of blue and white. Due to our expanding global marketplace, it is available in all prices ranges which makes it easy to find its way into anyones home. Best part is there are no rules…you play as you go along, adding a piece here, taking a piece away there….until you get it just right. Hope you enjoyed this post on blue and white and would love to hear what you have to say….thank you Beth and Kristy for having me!! Wishing everyone an enchanting day!

Thank you again, Tina! We are sure you are all well acquainted with the peerless Enchanted Home, but, if not, make sure to stop by!
