Bakes and Company For us, it’s the mother of all resolutions.
Woodmeister Master Builders And, nope, it’s not to lose ten pounds or exercise more or eat better.
Austin Bean Design Studio It’s mastering the art of closet organization.
Nate Berkus Design It isn’t that getting them clean is such a challenge. In fact, that part’s invigorating.
Inspirational Interiors The bags of things to give away and sell, the feeling of cleansing and order. The instant lightness inside. (In fact, if you are trying to lose ten pounds maybe you should just clean your closets instead!)
Catherine Kwong Design But keeping them that way is the challenging part.
Martha O’Hara Design Obviously, life goes so much more smoothly with closets that are tidy, neat and perfectly in order.
The Fuller View And, most days, the hanging back up and straightening the shoes isn’t that big of a deal.
Tim Barber Design
But then there’s that one time. You know what we mean. You go on a really long trip, your flight is delayed, you get home in the middle of the night, and, instead of organizing every garment back in its place, you cram it all on the long hanging rack and throw the bags on the floor.
LA Closet Design The next morning, when you wake up late, jet-lagged and exhausted, with a big meeting/event, you can’t find your shoes, which means — yup — that shoe duffel gets emptied out all over the floor. And the outfit you had roughly bookmarked in your mind as being “right” is suddenly all wrong, and in a rush to change, instead of everything being neatly hung back up when you decide you’d rather not wear it, it’s on the floor.
Bright Bold and Beautiful
And then you’re back to square one.
A Life of Grace and Beauty Only, nothing like that ever seems to happen to any of these people.
Martha Stewart Armoire Closet And (fingers crossed) it’s not going to happen to us this year either! And, if it is, it goes without saying that we will immediately take the ten minutes it would probably take to rectify the situation instead of letting it get all messy again.
Interiors by Studio M I’m super lucky because, this year, I have a head start. We had our closets painted a couple of months ago, and, in the process, cleared the clutter, cleaned and got everything super organized.
Inspirational Interiors I even took the major plunge and got rid of all the shoe boxes, leaving straight, clean rows of my favorite things!
If you’re hoping to join us in the mother of all resolutions, here’s a good place to start. Happy organizing, friends! We hope 2014 has been the best ever so far!

When it comes to fabulous organization a la New Year’s Resolutions, it all starts in the heart of the home.

Now that the kitchen in the Beaufort house is getting actual sheetrock this week (Woo Hoo!!) we’re starting to think about how we’re going to keep it sparkling and organized. Opening cabinets and seeing fabulous baskets make us so happy!
The Social Home
Mom was doing a little Etsy research — they have everything on there, don’t they? — and, while I recently purchased a gaggle of cute chalkboard labels on there for my house, Mom found these for Beaufort. They are the same beautiful blue as the paint and the font is great!
The Social Home
Opening a cabinet that looks like that makes the entire day feel better. It’s like a giant yoga breath!
A Humble Magic
For my pantry and cabinets at home, I decided to go with hermetically sealed jar after jar after jar. You can really put anything in a jar. Rice, flour, sugar, seaweed, Amy’s organic bunnies, teething biscuits… It’s kind of awesome. I got mine from The Container Store — Love that place!
I’m a huge tea drinker, so I’ve been trying to come up with solutions for all those little packages. I found a pretty tea box that now lives in one of my drawers, but, in the spirit of all that matching glass, I’m switching to loose leaf teas. They feel so elegant! Kind of like a great wine…
We didn’t decide to go with open shelving for the Beaufort house, but that doesn’t mean that the interior shelving can’t look as fantastic as if it were on display all the time.
A Well Traveled Woman
Even mismatched sets look orderly when they’re in neat rows.

This is such a fantastic, space-saving idea for silverware. Plus, you can just grab the handle without getting the silverware all germy.

Dream. Pantry. Nothing else to say.

Those little hooks are so fantastic! No more digging around in the drawers for measuring cups…
Habersham Blog There’s nothing like a built-in silverware drawer.
Glass canisters are such a clean, classic look. Plus, having all the staples right there on the counter is so easy.
This gorgeous open shelving proves that everything doesn’t have to match to look organized.
This is so creative! I’m not sure that we would ever eat that many apples or potatoes, but it sure does look nice. We’re getting so excited for how neat and tidy we’re going to be in the new year. How about you? Our Kitchen Organizing!
Happy 2013, friends! We are so incredibly humbled by your visits, comments and kindness all year round. This year we hope that you keep all your resolutions and that all your dreams come true!
One of my favorite things to do this time of year is drive around and look at everyone’s houses all decked out for the holidays. I try to take notes and get ideas from the elegant wreaths and garlands, but, I must admit, there are few things more fun than seeing those houses covered with lights and dancing Santas and blow-up snowmen. I’m always in awe of those people’s artistry because, honestly, getting the wreath and garland hung is about all I can manage, much less getting 100,000 blinking lights wrapped all over the place. There are no green and red blinking icicles hanging in these entrances, but we hope you like them anyway!
We are obsessed with this moss wreath. The entire entrance is so elegant — especially for people (like me) who aren’t red fans.

Such an elegant use of tree lights. Love it!

Wow! Now that’s an amazing entrance.

This garland is so gorgeous. I think that goes without saying. But I can’t help but wonder if they have pine needles shedding all over the place like I do…

We love to incorporate non-traditional colors in the Christmas decor. This yellow is such a fabulous punch.

Fire hazard or no, I am definitely putting lights up my stairs this year. There’s nothing more magical than a little candlelight…
