HouseTour:PatrickAhearnArchitect

We had the pleasure of spending last week in the lovely — and delightfully fall feeling — Martha’s Vineyard.
As if the combination of beach and mountain landscapes and unbelievable views weren’t enough, we could marvel for days at the stunning architecture!
If you’re a regular on our blog, you know that Patrick Ahearn has come up more than a few times… And we walked by his office more than a few times over the course of the trip!
And, now that we’re home, we get to “walk” inside one of his more fabulous creations.
Every room focuses on the one thing that money can’t buy: the view. (Well, obviously money can buy the view but not the elements that create the view!)
Authentic architectural details like the ceilings create the feeling of Martha’s Vineyard history.
This probably doesn’t come as a shock… But we are obsessed with this crisp, clean color palette.
The art really does the talking in every room!
If a seaside home should be anything, it’s light. The light through the bookcases — and, of course, that incredible skylight — are thoughtful details that make the home feel bright.
The air of this home — like the air of the island itself — is elegant and refined yet simple and functional. We think it’s the best combination.
This spacious suite is ideal for relaxing. We love the use of the portrait lights over these prints. They really make every piece feel incredibly special!
The setup of this bathroom is so cool! The double-entry shower is another one of those architectural touches that make people like Patrick Ahearn so indispensable!
This house tour already has us dreaming of our next trip to the Vineyard… And little Will (Happy 2nd birthday, little boy!) hasn’t stopped talking about the “baby plane” we took from Boston since he stepped off of it. We’ll leave that daydreaming to him — and stick to visions of gorgeous homes like this one! Wishing all of you a daydreamy kind of day!

Martha’s Vineyard Bound

A trip to Martha’s Vineyard is one of those things that’s exciting any old time. But it’s even more exciting when that trip is for a friend’s wedding!
We are spending the first two nights at our consistent Martha’s Vineyard favorite, the Harborview in Edgartown. Aren’t the grounds lovely? We can hardly wait!
This is one of the Harborview’s rental boats. It feels like a Fitzgerald book.
So here’s where you, our sweet, savvy, well-traveled friends come in.
The wedding is in Menemsha, at the Beach Plum Inn, which looks fantastic! We’ll be occupied with wedding stuff for a lot of the time, but we were wondering if anyone had any Menemsha tips.
Although I guess you don’t really need much to do if you can just relax and enjoy the view! So what do you have on tap for summer travels? If you’re planning a getaway, Debenhams Travel Insurance is definitely worth looking into.
Anyway, we’re big fans of the charming streets of Edgartown and their idyllic little shops.
Shouldn’t all towns look like this?
We can picture people moseying down to pay their water bill and stopping and chatting on these benches afterwards.
These people don’t need to make travel plans because this is their home on the water! Maybe they want us to come stay… This place would do nicely as well. If you’re reading this, homeowners, we’d be happy to housesit!

Thanks for stopping by today, everyone! We loved visiting with you and hope your weekend is great!

When it comes to classic, New England style, Patrick Ahearn Architecture and Interiors has it all wrapped up. So we weren’t a bit surprised to hear that they had been inducted into the 2013 New England Home Hall of Fame. In fact, if we were going to close our eyes as tight as we could and imagine what our dream New England home would look like, we’d be pretty thrilled if we opened our eyes to this!

Classic architecture and the judicious use of seaside touches (chic, not kitschy) are only a couple of the reasons that we think this firm’s choices are in such good taste.

Neutral palettes with a splash of color are our favorite for coastal decor. (And anywhere else, really!) The soothing decor creates instant relaxation and doesn’t take away from the vibrant landscape outside the window. Check out the fantastic architectural details in the archways. It’s those little touches that take a home to the next level.

Family dinners, dinner parties, laughing over drinks with friends… We think the dining room is one of the most important rooms in the house for creating memories that last a lifetime. A large farmhouse table creates the ideal atmosphere for sharing a good meal–and an open floor plan ensures that the cook doesn’t get left out!

1One of our favorite things about Patrick Ahearn’s seaside designs is that they always, without fail, place a premium on the crux of any good seaside home: the view! We are such huge fans of multiple seating areas, especially for parties. We’re sure this house entertains in style!

1 triple windows patrick aheThose open windows make even doing the dinner dishes seem more like a prize than a chore. The mix of counter surfaces here makes for a classically unique kitchen. And we just adore those baskets above the fridge and the back splash. It’s those little touches that make these elegant and beautiful homes feel relaxed and livable.

Lounging by this pool wouldn’t be too shabby either… This is the absolute chicest pool house! We could definitely lounge away an afternoon relaxing by this pool.

On the exterior, as with the interior, it’s that attention to detail that separates an Ahearn home from the pack. The charming window boxes, pergola and picket fence create a homey feeling in a stunning, sprawling setting.

Cedar shakes by the seashore. Say that three times fast! Obviously, this is a gorgeous home in any material, but we think that cedar shakes can make any home more fabulous!
Don’t crisp, clean landscaping and interiors make everything better? It would be such a treat to drive up this perfectly manicured lawn everyday. (Although we have doubts about our abilities to stay within those perfect brick lines…) We hope you’ve enjoyed today’s good taste and wish you a wonderful day!
