In Good Taste: Mary McDonald

Last week’s post on Phoebe Howard was really all about Mom, so, this week, we decided to feature one of my favorite designers: Mary McDonald!

I’ve always thought her design aesthetic was fabulous–I’m a Frenchy sort of girl, myself–but it was her stint on Million Dollar Decorators that sealed the deal for me. I think she’s absolutely hilarious!

Country home done right.
Mary’s fabulous floors are one of my favorite things she does. This bathroom floor is amazing. She makes this space feel so luscious.

This is such a precious room for a little girl. Our favorite thing is how it will transition her from teddy bears to boyfriends!

Loved the mirrored end tables and how everything flows without being perfectly symmetrical.

Remember that post we did on our dream beach house yesterday? Please insert this photo.

Another unbelievable floor

Nobody does glamour better than Mary! This lemon/pale gray color combination is one of our favorites.

This room does a beautiful job of combining the masculine and feminine in wonderful proportion. It’s truly space the whole family can enjoy.

Basic Brown

Wendy Posard Design
My favorite professor in journalism school always wrote in brown. Black, he said, was what everyone used, and brown, while basic and timeless, still stood out.

Apartment Therapy
Now, certainly, we couldn’t live without our black, but, when it comes decorating, just like when it comes to ink, he might have been onto something.
Mary McDonald Design
We love Mary McDonald’s use of so many different shades to create a look similar to layered neutrals but with tons of impact.

Muse Interiors
This rug is absolutely fabulous!

Steve Gambrel Design
We always think of orange and pink as go-to favorites for pairing with brown, but these golden tones look great too. Another to-die-for rug, and aren’t those curtains gorgeous?

Phoebe Howard Design
In this bedroom, brown serves as the perfect compromise between masculine and feminine… Plus, we’re sure with the dark walls we could sleep for days!

In short, from animal prints to Hershey’s Kisses, brown is a color we simply can’t live without!
