In Good Taste: Architect John B. Murray

John B. Murray Architect entrance

John B. Murray, Architect via Dering Hall

One of our favorite things about John B. Murray’s architectural designs is that he always keeps and eye on the view. From expansive fields of green,

To a sparkling water vista,

To the cityscape to end all cityscapes,

He designs homes that work with the environment around them–

And suit the needs of the families within their walls.

From an expansive eat-in kitchen,

To a spectacular upstairs nook,

An outstanding paneled bath and closets,

To a light, bright, glass-filled haven,

This architect creates spaces that simply beg to be lived in.

Outstanding outdoor spaces,

And breathtaking facades are two of the hallmarks of this architect.

And his designs are as diverse as the families within their walls.

We can’t think of a better place to welcome us home at night–and we can’t get enough of the good taste of this extraordinary architect. Can you?

Thank you so much for making Design Chic a part of your day. We always love seeing you here!

A shingled house practically calls for a perfectly manicured yard, doesn’t it?

Even in a home where shingles don’t cover every inch, we think they steal the show–and add interest to an exterior in droves.

Things We Love: A Gorgeous Garage

garage
Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles – Architect Yong Pak

More than just a place to park your car, a garage — when done right — is an integral part of the home.

garage
T.S. Adams

We’re still in the planning stages of our addition,  and a gorgeous garage is on the top of our list for things we need — and inspired this post! Remember, when doing your own addition, it’s always a good idea to compare prices.

garage
Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles

Keeping our cars out of the salt air is great, sure. But, when it comes to garages,

garage
NLB Architects

we love the idea of creating extra space for guests.

garage
McCann Design Group

A charming suite up top complete with bedroom, bathroom and kitchen gives guests privacy while still letting them be a part of the fun.

garage
Patrick Ahearn Architect

Extra room for guests or no, isn’t it nice when a garage is a seamless part of the home, not an afterthought? This one is particularly well done, we think.

garage
Anne Decker Architects

Detached garages can add charm — and work well when they are added later,

garage
Patrick Ahearn Architects

but there’s nothing better when it’s raining outside and you have a car full of kids, groceries, etc. than to be able to slide right in your door without getting a drop on you!

When it comes to garages, it’s all about the garage doors isn’t it? We love the charm of these carriage doors

This garage is simply stunning.

Does it get any better than this? We don’t think so! Thanks so much for stopping by and making Design Chic a part of your day. We always love seeing you here!

American Farmhouse Style

house tour donald lococo arch American farmhouse

American. Farmhouse. When we hear those two words, we know what’s to come is going to be good. Great, actually.

wood American Farmhouse

We can just picture reclaimed (or original!) wood floors and a smattering of antiques.

office-American Farmhouse

Fabulously rustic wood beams and a smattering of sunlight — perfect for getting plenty of work done in a perfectly farmhouse office.

house tour donald lococo American Farmhouse

A farmhouse is the kind of place where families can come together, where it’s okay to have a little bit of dirt on your feet.

kitchen-American Farmhouse

The kitchen is beautifully updated for fresh-from-the-garden meals any night of the week.

paint-American Farmhouse

But it still maintains so many of the characteristics that give a farmhouse its undeniable charm in the first place — like a warm and welcoming paint color, for instance.

glass-American Farmhouse

And family dinner around the dining room table isn’t just something that sounds good on paper. It’s a nightly ritual.

wood-American Farmhouse

A proper garden is a must at the American farmhouse. Watering cans and clippers and garden clogs… and a new sink ensconced in something antique is a really great way to enter off of the garden if you can get it. (And a dog bowl because, of course, the farmhouse has dogs!)

dining-American Farmhouse

A bit of rustic beauty combined with upscale elegance works nicely for entertaining friends.

bathroom

And, well, there are some places that you just don’t really need to be rustic…

house tour donald lococo-American Farmhouse

Like in this beautiful bathroom, for instance.

flowers-American Farmhouse

Flowers must greet you at the door; that’s a given. But they can’t be too terribly fussy. Wild is always better on the farm.

stone-American Farmhouse

And a bit of stone on the facade is simply stunning.

farmhouse-American Farmhouse

A fence for cattle or pigs… or looks… is always a great touch.

farm

And extra credit is given for a real-life, old-timey barn.

artist-American Farmhouse

Yes, we’d say this American farmhouse hits all the high notes of what we expect from a truly fabulous American farmhouse that is as livable and updated as it is rustic and character-filled. We think we could move right in! What about you? Can you see yourself living on this gorgeous farm?
