Things We Love: Antique Tortoise Bamboo

Toledo GellerJacob Snavely Photography

Good morning, chic readers! We hope you and your families are remaining safe and well right now. We’re so glad to see you here and hope pretty homes are providing a small respite for you each day, as they are for us.

As many of your know, if things were business as usual, we would be prepping for the major furniture event of the year: High Point Market! For obvious reasons, it has been postponed until June, but, in light of the delay, a few of our favorite companies, like Kenian Imports, are giving us a really special opportunity. This normally to-the-trade only brand is giving us the chance to take orders for the public! (Details at the bottom of this post, but, basically, email us at [email protected] for more info!)

Kenian graces our houses in so many ways, and we are in love with their classic bamboo pieces–and more! This Twisted Round Mirror is the perfect focal point for this gorgeous living room.

And this antique tortoise English Desk and Chair is one of our most favorite Kenian sets. It’s perfect for an office space, of course, but we also love it in place of a nightstand in a guest bedroom.

Dining and breakfast rooms can be tricky to decorate, but these Sidney Chairs add instant pizazz and so much style!

At a desk or as an occasional chair, this rush seat chair is exquisitely crafted.

One of the very first things we bought for our house in Beaufort was a pair of consoles for the living room. I actually love them even more today than I did then! These Sidney Chairs and this large buffet console make a statement in a dining room, entrance hall or anywhere, really!

Kenian Imports caught our eye at first because of its stunning bamboo. (This is important to us. To give you an idea, we ordered THREE sets of bamboo directors chairs–non-returnable ones, no less–for our dining room before finally discovering Kenian’s perfect patina with the look of antique but the strength of new.) But most of their pieces, like these Palm Beach Chippendale Arm Chairs, are paint to order. With a huge range of colors to choose from, the options are practically endless.

Nothing is quite as “now” as this fabulous Madrid table & Bistro Chairs. This set has a future in my new breakfast room!

James Farmer

This Antique tortoise bachelor’s chest is the perfect nightstand, but certainly doesn’t need to be restricted to the bedroom.

We have a pair of this antique tortoise English rectangular table–as well as a coffee table, loveseat, pair of chairs and cooler–on our back screened porch. They are positively charming and have held up beautifully.

Janie Molster

There is definitely a pair of this new Chippendale peacock chair in our future! Talk about a statement!!

Take tour of the Kenian Imports website and email us at [email protected] for more information. We are also happy to take orders! Take advantage of getting this normally to-the-trade brand delivered right to your door. We can’t wait to see the splashes of Kenian Imports pieces in your spring and summer home decor makeovers!

Things We Love: Simple Greens

If one of your New Year’s Resolutions was to get more greens in your life, look no further.

Oh. Wait. No, no, no, not those greens. (Although, we drink Amazing Grass Kids Chocolate Superfood and it is as amazing as its title suggests. Yeah, we could try the adult kind, but you know it won’t be as good…)

Anyway, there is nothing quite as wonderful as having fresh things in your home: flowers, cake, greenery, fudge, air.

But if you’re like us and lacking in the green thumb department, there is nothing we love quite as much as few fresh leaves.

They’re super chic, on trend, live a long, long time, and lend any space that decidedly India Hicks vibe. We don’t know about you, but that’s a vibe we want.

Speaking of, Mom has a big birthday coming up next year. Don’t ask which one. A lady never tells.

And we rented one of India Hicks’ fab houses in Eleuthera for her birthday trip. Don’t tell her. It’s a surprise! Just kidding… She does read her own blog, so that would be hard to hide. We’ll share pics!

There are sure to be plenty of palm leaves like these. If there aren’t, we’ll cut some.

Cut a few favorites from your own yard and you’ll be well on your way to getting more greens—no spinach required!

House Tour: Tracy Hardenburg Baltimore Home

If you loved the good taste of Tracy Hardenburg Designs as much as we did in our post yesterday, you are in for a treat today with this Baltimore house tour!

This spacious stunner is perfectly choreographed from start to finish.

Even the hallways are works of art! (And the light fixtures, of course.)

A grand chef’s kitchen is the perfect spot for cooking for a crowd–or a sleeping dog!

Unique finds and fresh accessories fill every stunning space in this home.

The thing we love most about this house is that, amidst the grand living spaces, there are cozier rooms like this beautiful sitting room, made all the more charming by darker colors.

This chic, masculine bar is ideal for gathering a group for a cold winter’s night cocktail.

And, after that, a cozy night’s sleep in a luxurious bedroom, filled with wonderful texture for this cold, cold season.

Even the bathrooms are in keeping with this house’s vibe.

We love how Hardenburg has created spaces that are layered, yet uncluttered…

With the right combination of antique and new.

We love the combination of pretty bamboo and sleek gray and silver in this adorable bathroom.

For just hanging around,

Or gathering poolside with friends,

This Baltimore place is nothing short of a sanctuary. What’s your favorite space?

Thank you so much for making Design Chic a part of your day. We always love seeing you here!
