In Good Taste: Studio McGee

What do you do when you have “a spare bedroom with lots of big ideas and no room for fabric samples?”

If you’re Shea McGee, you start a design firm!

After graduating with a degree in PR, Shea decided that she was passionate about interiors. Little did she know that, a few semesters into chasing her dream, she would have a huge waitlist of clients.

Shea enlisted her husband Syd and, together, they created Studio McGee, a design firm that has grown to more than 30 team members and manages projects nationwide.

With the team’s bright, airy and slightly organic aesthetic, it’s easy to see why Studio McGee has become one of the most well-known design firms in the U.S.

The studio’s work has been featured in magazines including Vogue Living, Architectural Digest, Elle Decor and House Beautiful, among others.

Shea turned her vision for a side-project for a stay-at-home mom into something much larger–and it’s safe to say that her clients have benefitted from the leap of faith that Shea and Syd took in that guest bedroom.

With the perfect laid-back luxe vibe, we can’t possibly pick a favorite space!

We can’t what to see what the Studio McGee team creates next!

Thanks so much for stopping by Design Chic today. We always love seeing you here!

Good morning, chic readers! We hope you had an amazing weekend! We know it isn’t the official start of summer, but once school is out, it always feels like it to us.  And summer is the perfect time for catching up with friends, taking that much-needed vacation and finding the time for the rest and relaxation you missed out on throughout the year.

A beautiful bathroom can completely set the tone for the morning.

Sinks that look as much like jewelry as somewhere to wash your hands are always welcome in one of our rooms.

When space allows, decorative details that make the bath feel as accessorized and beautiful as the rest of the house are a must! This lovely orchid and tray are inspiring us!

Of all the elements that combine to make a gorgeous bathroom, the bathtub is by far our favorite!  This stainless tub looks like an unbelievable way to end the day.

We have long been fans of pairs of pedestal sinks in bathrooms, which is what we put in our Beaufort house. But, let’s face it, for a space where you’re getting ready day to day and quite possibly sharing with a spouse, a pedestal can get a little dicey. The center cabinets solve the issue perfectly!

A pair of mirrors over a pair of sinks adds fantastic symmetry to a space.

Things We Love:Architectural Details

bathroom-jeffrey-dungan-3

We’ve always, always loved old houses. Why? For their amazing finishes, of course. The moldings, doors, window casings… Older homes often contain the kind of woodwork that is nearly impossible to duplicate–and, even when it’s possible, is way too expensive to be realistic.

Good morning, good morning, our wonderful friends! We hope you had a fabulous Monday. I had the best time last weekend in one of the South’s most beautiful cities: Savannah. It was a fabulous weekend full of Southern booksellers, incredible authors and I got to take part in the amazing Shoe Burnin’ Show, a combination of story and song that one of my author friends describes as “Southern Literary Church.” All in all, it was a very memorable weekend. Speaking of memorable, Christopher Architecture and Interiors is all about creating homes that are totally unforgettable.

1-1

Just as life is made up in moments, homes are too.

11-1

And we can confidently say that these architects and designers are some of the best we’ve seen of creating those moments.

This is the kind of kitchen where breakfast is served, coffee is shared and memories are made.

The mix of luxe metals and natural stone with darker wood rustic touches is a fabulous juxtaposition.

We love giant picture windows for letting in light. It makes a kitchen seem so much brighter and airier.

We love, love, love these acrylic barstools! So chic!

These beautiful beds are the perfect example of how twins can transition for a child’s room to an adult guest room.

An adorable window seat is ideal for a child’s room. Is there anything sweeter than baby clothes?

A soaking tub with plenty of light is one of those “moments.” It’s totally serene.

Steel windows and doors can define both an interior and exterior decor. We can’t get enough of them! Which one of these gorgeous rooms is your favorite?

We hope your Tuesday is fabulous!
