Feels Like Falling Home Tour: Gray’s House

Carrier & Co

Good morning, friends! My sixth novel, FEELS LIKE FALLING is out in the world!

As with all of my books, in FEELS LIKE FALLING, home is a big deal–for more reasons than one. Blogger-turned-media-mogul Gray is going through a nasty divorce and, as a result, contemplating selling her beloved home, while Diana loses her boyfriend and her job in the same day and realizes that she is suddenly without a home.

The book is set in Cape Carolina, a fictional town that resembles a bit of a mash-up of the little strectch of the NC coast where I live, a juxtaposition of Morehead City and Atlantic Beach with a dash of Beaufort thrown in.

Gray’s home is older, right on the water, and, as she says, she picked every last pansy that had ever been planted. She is hard-pressed to leave her home and all her hard work on it behind. But leaving behind the memories is going to be even harder.

Gray and Diana both do a lot of discovery around family (around the dinner table!) in this book, specifically about how we create our families, what they look like and how they should be.

For Gray, opening her home to a stranger (or, maybe, strangers, plural) gives her an entirely new perspective about what that means.

When I was writing, I pictured Gray and her son Wagner surrounded by pretty neutrals and water blues,

Touches of history and a bit of artistic whimsy.

Despite her high-tech job, Gray has very classic tastes.

She savored the experience of taking this beach house and preserving what was good–

While making it the ultimate summer retreat for her entire family.

If you could use an escape today, please, please join me (And Gray! And Diana!) in Cape Carolina. Thanks, so much, dear friends, for supporting my novels since day 1. Truly, I wouldn’t be here without each of you!

I had the best day yesterday in Louisville, KY with my friends Michelle and Jennifer from Black, White & Kuhl.

They gave me the full Kentucky experience, from appearing together on Great Day Live to a super fun Junior League Book Club Event. I know why Louisville is considered one of the friendliest cities in the country!

Talk about making your week bright! There’s nothing better than meeting readers in new cities–and finding new cities to love!

This fabulous laundry room is the kind of place we would actually want to do laundry. Bring on the folding!

Dining al fresco is always welcome in the summer months. These pretty blue napkins are the perfect complement to the sea right beyond.

A beautiful back porch is a home’s must-have, especially during the southern months. If it has a screen, all the better!

This fabulous bedroom shows that a room doesn’t have to be big on space to be huge on style.

Everything about this exterior is amazing, but we think the wood door is our favorite touch.

Thanks so much for making Design Chic a part of your day!

House Tour: Tracery Interiors

Good morning, friends! We hope you’re having a great week so far! We don’t know about you, but we’re in the mood for a house tour to perk up our Wednesday.

Beautiful blues and aquas always make a splash in a seaside home. Baskets add a chic touch and make storing a breeze.

Anne Hepfer Design

Ahhhhh….qua. We really think that’s how it should be spelled. Because, out of all the color choices, it’s quite possibly the most soothing. Doesn’t this kitchen just whisper, “You could relax with a quiet cup of coffee here?”

Anne Hepfer Design

Aqua seems like a very appropriate color choice for this week because a group of friends and I are hosting a baby shower at the Beaufort house! And it’s a…. boy! (Otherwise, the aqua probably wouldn’t seem quite so appropriate…)

Andrew J. Howard

But, boy or girl, aqua really is just one of our all-time, all-around favorite colors. Well, I mean, right now. Favorite colors are apt to change, you know.

Ken Hayden Photography – Metropolitan Magazine

Aqua is one of those colors that doesn’t feel the need to call attention to itself. Just a hint, like in this living room, is wonderful. And Fresh Flowers like those on the side table are such a luxury!

Tim Clarke Design – Noah Webb Photographer

This bathroom is so fabulous, and that little touch of aqua shampoo adds a little something extra, don’t you think? (We feel like all of you, like us, are the kind of people who would buy a shampoo based on color coordination for the bathroom…)

Windsor Smith Design

What a dream vanity! The mirror is so stunning and that little aqua stool is just the perfect touch. We’d love to get ready here every morning!

Ken Hayden Photography

Let’s face it, this bathroom would be phenomenal in any color. Check out that view! The aqua seems to blend right in so beautifully!

Michael Stavaridis Photography

I need to know where these chairs are from ASAP. They are incredible. This is just the kind of place where a glass railing is so appropriate. You just have to be able to see that glittering pool below!

Michael Stavaridis Photography

Oh my gosh! This might be one of the coolest pictures of the beach we’ve seen! Incredible!!

Lynn Morgan Design

Both of these lights are so chic. We love beach house decor that ties in all the colors from right outside the door.

Ken Hayden Photograpy

What a dreamy kitchen. That one little patch of aqua keeps all of that white from looking boring. (Although, let’s be real, it would still be crazy amazing without the aqua…)

Emily McCarthy

Oh so adorable!

Neiman Marcus

I must have these…

And this! What’s better for summer than aqua toes? Well, maybe aqua toes in the sand…

Wishing you a wonderful (preferably sandy) weekend!
