DON’T FORGET, THE SECRET TO SOUTHERN CHARM IS AVAILABLE BY CALLING YOUR LOCAL BOOKSTORE, ANY OF THE FABULOUS BOOKSTORES ABOVE OR AT INDIEBOUND, AMAZON, BARNES & NOBLE OR WHEREVER BOOKS ARE SOLD!
Good morning, chic readers! Birmingham, Alabama is one of our favorite southern cities, and this Birmingham House by architect James F. Carter gives us one more reason to add to the list of reasons we love this southern enclave.
With all the modern amenities of a brand new house,
But the stately details that overflow with old southern charm.
Can you get any more classic than those black and white floors?
Those stairwell areas are always hard to decorate. How many pictures do you need? How do you space a gallery wall? This bookshelf idea is totally genius!
Speaking of bookshelves and Alabama (and speaking of speaking…) I have the privilege of speaking at Hoover, Alabama’s Southern Voices, which is most certainly a bucket-list item of mine, Saturday, February 25.
It will be such a privilege to present alongside some of my personal favorite authors, Rebecca Wells (the Ya-Ya Sisterhood), Chris Bohjalian, Julie Cantrell, Mary Kubica and Karen White, along with a few that I am so excited to get to know. If you’re in the area, come see us!
I am going to go out on a limb and say that I think these homeowners might just be avid readers.
Bookshelves in every room are the kind of statement we like to make!
This paneling is just exquisite. It’s hard to believe that this is a new house!
Navy and brass is a classic color combination that we can’t get enough of.
It is perfection in the kitchen, the perfect shade to feel deep but not heavy.
We think one of the major characteristics that separates the old from the new is hardware. This lock makes the door look like it has been there forever!
Sloping rooflines add such character.
Did we mention charm? Oh, the charm!
What a perfect little nook for working–or daydreaming.
Classic details, beautifully implemented, are always in style. We think it’s safe to say that James Carter has gorgeously good taste.
What do you think?
I just wanted to thank you so much for all of your support during these first few weeks of The Secret toSouthern Charm Book tour. My novel even became a TARGET FICTION BESTSELLER AND A BOOKSCAN NATIONAL BESTSELLER! Thank you, for helping to make my dreams come true, for telling your friends and writing reviews, for hosting and coming to my events . . . I am here today because of you, and, even though we may not have ever met, I count you as one of the people I am most grateful for every day.

A Portion of My Acknowledgments in The Secret to Southern Charm
One of the hardest parts of writing a book for me is writing my acknowledgments–because I have so, so many people to thank that I always end up having to cut them down–more than once! The funny thing is that most of the time, the people I thank never even see the acknowledgments because they don’t make it into the advance copies. (Because I procrastinate soooo long on turning them in.) So I wanted you to see a small portion of my acknowledgements in my latest novel The Secret to Southern Charmtoday! Thank you sweet friends for all of your help and support!
My design blogger girls, there are too many of you to name here, but, literally, you launched my career. Hands down. Thank you for your enthusiasm, your support, and for sharing your readers and your corners of the Internet with me year after year. I love you all so much and am in awe of your generosity!
It is beginning to sink in that this is my fourth novel, that only four years ago I was hoping and praying that I would get to see just one book in print. I have to thank you, the reader who holds this book, for helping to make my dreams come true, for telling your friends and writing reviews, for hosting and coming to my events . . . I am here today because of you, and, even though we may not have ever met, I count you as one of the people I am most grateful for every day.

Maybe it’s all of those things, maybe it’s the magnolia blossoms, but there are so many reasons that I love living in the South and so many reasons that I love writing about the South.
And I can’t think of anything more exciting than having a brand new book, the second book in the Peachtree Bluff Series, the sequel to Slightly South of Simple, releasing April 3, 2018, called The Secret to Southern Charm!
Maybe it’s the love, family and tradition… It was hard for me to say what the secret to southern charm was, but Grammy, the matriarch of the Murphy clan, knew right away.
Speaking of grandmothers, my two have had a huge impact on my life. (If you want to know more, check out this article I wrote about my grandmother’s pearls for Parade.) And I think it is these family relationships, the respect and love among multiple generations of women, that are a huge part of what makes writing about the South so much fun.
