The magnolia blossoms… There are so many reasons that I love living in the South and so many reasons that I love writing about the South.

And I can’t think of anything more exciting than having a brand new book, the third book in the Peachtree Bluff Series, the sequel to Slightly South of Simple and The Secret to Southern Charm releasing May 7, 2019, called The Southern Side of Paradise!

Maybe it’s the love, family and tradition… But, to us, the South really is paradise!

And the particular paradise in my Peachtree Bluff series, my town of Beaufort, NC, is something I recently got to write about for Southbound and Atlanta magazines. And I hope you’ll come visit me in paradise on June 1, 2019, when Peachtree Bluff takes over Beaufort, NC! There will be double decker bus tours, a schmancy, gorgeous dinner, lunch with one of the best views in town… And you have a chance to win a trip! Simply send your preorder receipt to [email protected] (More details here!)

And now, the final installment of the series, THE SOUTHERN SIDE OF PARADISE, is releasing into the world May 7, and I couldn’t be more excited! One of my favorite magazines, Southern Living, did me the incredible honor of exclusively revealing the cover and a special excerpt yesterday, so make sure to go check that out! Now, without further ado, here it is, my brand new cover, maybe my favorite one yet!

What do you think?? I hope you love it as much as I do!

Thanks so much for making Design Chic a part of you day! We always love seeing you here!

Marshall Watson Visits Beaufort, NC!

Marshall Watson
Photographer: Francesco Lagnese

Good morning, chic readers! Did you have a good weekend? We sure did. It was full of fun related to the Beaufort Historical Association Homes Tour, but the best part of all, the icing on the cake, was a fabulous brunch in the yard of a gorgeous Beaufort Home with our friend and one of our most favorite designers, Marshall Watson.

You’ve heard us rave about his incredible range as a designer before, the way that he can take on any project, in any town, for any family and make it reflect the owners’ wants and needs.

And with his background, it’s no wonder, really.

From a career as a fine painter to studying design at Stanford to studying at FIT, Watson has more than his share of credentials.

But, as with all those at the top of their field, there is also something in Waston’s work that cannot be taught, a keen eye and natural understanding of symmetry and balance, of what goes into the story that a home is telling.

Watson told the audience that he draws on his background as an actor (He was one of the stars of As the World Turns in the ’80s among his many other acting credentials!), where he really learned to disappear into the character, to really put a lot of himself aside and focus only on what his clients need and want.

Even still, from Mexico to 5th Avenue, Salt Lake City to St. Louis, a sense of timeless elegance and style unifies all of Watson’s projects.

His work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Veranda, House Beautiful, Luxe, House and Garden, Traditional Homes, Hamptons Cottages and Gardens and the New York Times. He has also been featured in New York Spaces, Metropolitan Home, The Chicago Tribune, as well as being a regular design columnist for the Southampton Press.

Doris Leslie Blau says he is, “one of America’s most respected design industry leaders.”

And all of that is true, of course. But New York Social Diary’s proclamation that he is “kind to the core” may resonate most of all.
