Good morning, chic readers! I can’t believe it, but my sixth novel, Feels Like Falling, officially releases tomorrow! If you’re looking to add to your bookshelves–or your beach bag–I’d love it if you’d check it out!

Speaking of bookshelves, they are, hands down, one of our favorite parts of any design scheme.

But getting the perfect blend of books and accessories, deciding to go monochrome or to mix it up, can be tricky.

Michael Wells Photography

We adore the look of these gorgeous volumes grouped by color. (Feels Like Falling has a stunning blue beach cover and a fun, bold blue and red spine!)

But a neutral palette also lends a clean, streamlined look and, as these shelves prove, can still be eye-catching.

To us, nothing is quite as fabulous as a library ladder–except for maybe these gorgeous library lights!

And, of course, a cozy sitting area where one can curl up with a good book is practically mandatory!

Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles

Whatever look you love best in your bookcases, I would love it if you added Feels Like Falling to it! Here’s a little more info:

From “the next major voice in Southern fiction” (Elin Hilderbrand) and the bestselling author of the Peachtree Bluff series comes an odd-couple tale of friendship that asks just how much our past choices define our happiness.

It’s summertime on the North Carolina coast and the livin’ is easy.

Unless, that is, you’ve just lost your mother to cancer, your sister to her extremist husband, and your husband to his executive assistant. Meet Gray Howard. Right when Gray could use a serious infusion of good karma in her life, she inadvertently gets a stranger, Diana Harrington, fired from her job at the local pharmacy.

Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles

Diana Harrington’s summer isn’t off to the greatest start either: Hours before losing her job, she broke up with her boyfriend and moved out of their shared house with only a worn-out Impala for a bed. Lucky for her, Gray has an empty guest house and a very guilty conscience.

With Gray’s kindness, Diana’s tide begins to turn. But when her first love returns, every secret from her past seems to resurface all at once. And, as Gray begins to blaze a new trail, she discovers, with Diana’s help, that what she envisioned as her perfect life may not be what she wants at all.

In her warmest, wisest novel yet, Kristy Woodson Harvey delivers a discerning portrait of modern womanhood through two vastly different lenses. Feels Like Falling is a beach bag essential for Harvey fans—and for a new generation of readers.

Are you one of those people who has all of your books compactly stored on your e-reader?

Or, like us, do you still prefer to hold the real thing? Book hoarding has always been a bit of an issue for me,

Janie Molster Designs

`but it has gotten a million times worse since becoming an author because, not only do I get hordes of free books, but most of them are signed. Who could possibly get rid of those?Hubby and I have these giant, probably twelve-foot tall bookshelves on either side of the fireplace. The other day I was up on a stool restyling things when he came in and said, “Do you think you could start getting rid of some of your books after you’re finished reading them?”

I looked at him, puzzled, and said, “You know I’ve gotten really good about donating books to the library.”

His turn to look, puzzled, at the probably 500 books I was currently organizing. Reading the look on his face, I laughed and said, “Oh, honey. These are the ones I haven’t read yet.”

So, yes, I may have a problem. I can’t help myself. I buy books incessantly. Fiction, non-fiction, every design and coffee table book on planet earth. Yoga. Meditation. Cookbooks that I will never, ever use but for some reason love to read. Fishing books for hubby. Children’s books for my little guy, a genre that has not widely expanded since he can read himself… Being on tour is quite the problem since I’m in bookstores constantly. The good news for my husband is that I was mostly flying on this tour, so I was a little more limited as to what I could bring home.

But maybe this is why I love bookshelves that look a little lived in, that look like the books have been read and cherished, or at least will be read and cherished.

And mixing in well-placed accessories, of course, adds to the overall style. But we pretty much love bookshelves however they come!

No matter how you style your bookshelves, we hope you’ll consider adding a copy of The Southern Side of Paradise to them! Or that stack beside your bedside table… Or your beach bag… Or your gift or wishlist! Thank you to each and every one of you for all of your support these first few weeks of The Southern Side of Paradise being out in the world. I am so grateful for friends like you!

House Tour: Cloth and Kind

Good morning, chic readers! Are you in full-on Thanksgiving hysteria yet? We are getting so excited, and, okay, truth time: We pulled out the Christmas playlist on Amazon Music today. (If you haven’t listened to the Train Christmas album, you totally should!) So, yeah, it will be 71 degrees tomorrow, and the turkey hasn’t even been bought yet much less cooked, but what’s the harm in breaking our no-Christmas-music-until-after-Thanksgiving rule? It’s not like we’ve already bought the tree

While you’re putting the finishing touches on your Thanksgiving grocery list, check out this fabulous house tour from the beyond amazing Cloth and Kind. It’s the perfect home, holiday or not!

Built-in bookcases are one of our favorite features in any home. The addition of the brass library lamps takes the look over the top!

A blue island is the perfect pop in an otherwise white kitchen. It adds so much dimension.

A teeny vignette becomes a focal point with the addition of this beautiful rug and distressed piece of furniture.

There’s nothing better than starting and finishing the day in the sunniest spot in the house!

We love hot pink in any space…

And beautiful blues too, of course.

There’s no space we love more than a window seat, especially when the weather gets cooler and we draw closer to home.

Double sinks provide plenty of space for getting ready…

And a soaking tub creates a spa-like retreat.

Just add a Turkish towel!

A playful child’s room is such a delight,

And a darling basin sink creates plenty of space for multiple kids to get ready for school.

Isn’t it amazing? We love Cloth and Kind’s use of color, pattern and texture–even on the porch.

Thank you so much for making Design Chic a part of your day. We always love seeing you here!
