Books in Interiors Add Style

Good morning, chic readers! We hope you are having a very happy Monday. This is my first week back from the truly epic The Southern Side of Paradise tour, and, as fun as it was to be on the road, it’s great to be home–and just in time for summer!

But, just because I’m home from tour doesn’t mean that I don’t have books on the brain.

We are formulating our ridiculously lengthy summer reading lists…

And, of course, we always, always love a great book in an even better design scheme.

Stacks on the coffee table are a forever favorite, perfect not only for aesthetics but also for picking up and perusing.

We’re also big fans of using a single, statement book to punctuate an end table.

Those round entrance hall tables can be tricky to decorate properly.

Nothing makes the perfect welcoming statement quite like stacks of beautiful books!

We usually think of books as going on the end table, but, really this just cuts out the middle man! If you’re like us, the stacks could easily be taller than the table.

One of the best things about decorating with books is that they are a terrific way to add pops of color. From pink to blue to black and everything in between, they add a pretty punch to any space.

Books are even welcome on a favorite bar cart. We’d recommend favorite cocktail recipe books for instant entertaining! What are your favorite books to have around your home? And what books are topping your summer reads list?

Head over to my Instagram  to learn how to win all 5 of these books!  Just in time for Summer reading!

What People are Saying about The Peachtree Bluff Series

“My prediction is that writers come and writers go, but Kristy Woodson Harvey is here to stay. The warmth, wit, and wisdom of this novel pave her way into the exclusive sisterhood of southern writers.” (—Jackie K. Cooper, The Huffington Post)

If you haven’t started the Peachtree Bluff Series yet, now is the perfect time! The first book in the series, Slightly South of Simple, has released in mass market paperback–and it’s #14 on the bestseller list! Pick it up at your favorite bookstore, local grocery store, drugstore or retail store

Cozy Reading Nooks

Happy Monday, Design Chic readers! Have you had a good week? I know I have! I’m just on Cloud Nine about The Southern Side of Paradise‘s release and this wonderful book tour I’m on–and all of your kind words!

This is probably pretty obvious, but reading is one of my great loves. It always has been, actually, from the first day I started.

New England Home Magazine

I still remember how it felt to read my very first book all by myself. (It was called Dr. Cat–and a Design Chic reader found an original copy for my son!)

Ever since that day, I’ve been pretty much hooked. So I think it’s totally necessary to have a great reading nook.

We have a lot of them in our house, actually. A chaise with a lamp in the guest room for guests, a pair of them in the room off the kitchen, lots of throws over cozy chairs that just beg to be read in, a double window seat on the third floor with the best view in the house…

When I first set out on my journey to become an author, I used to have dreams of having a bookshelf full of nothing but rows of my books.

I’ve realized now, as my fifth book is releasing, that I have so many other books it might be unrealistic to dedicate an entire bookshelf to just me…

But it’s still pretty cool to look over and see my name on some of those spines.

And it’s crazy to think that only four years ago my debut novel, Dear Carolina, was just releasing. And that only three years ago Lies and Other Acts of Love was coming out. I almost can’t remember my life before I was an author, and it hasn’t even been that long!

And, if you aren’t tired of hearing it yet, YOU are one of the major reasons that I get to continue on in this career, that I get to keep writing books. Thank you for reading, for reviewing, for recommending to your friends, to my fellow bloggers for sharing on your blogs and for being generally awesome. I am eternally grateful!

Now that The Southern Side of Paradise has been out for a few days, I hope you have a chance to curl up in your favorite reading nook and visit my fictional town of Peachtree Bluff, Georgia. It’s like taking a vacation without having to leave your favorite comfy spot!

Thanks for stopping by today! We always love it when you do!

New Design Book Isabel López-Quesada At Home

Most people don’t know exactly what they want to do at the age of thirteen.

But Isabel López-Quesada isn’t most people.

It was at that young age that she decided her love of interiors was more than a future career. It was a vocation, a calling.

From Spain to the US, France to Japan and even the Dominican Republic, Isabel’s projects span the globe and earned her Spanish Architectural Digest‘s “Best Interiorist” in 2012. She was also on the AD 100 in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Milieu Magazine

Now, you can step inside her home in a gorgeous new coffee table book, Isabel López-Quesada at Home.

More about At HomeInnovatively combining period and contemporary furniture and art in a sophisticated mix, the homes of Isabel López-Quesada are inspirational and unforgettable. In At Home, the Spanish designer tells her own story.

Isabel López-Quesada sunroom

López-Quesada introduces her family and their traditions, and reveals her sources of inspiration—such as the work of earlier designers like Renzo Mongiardino and John Stefanidis. She relates how she transformed an abandoned wax factory in a leafy district of Madrid into her family home and atelier, and then recounts how she created a country home out of a run-down Basque farm in the hills outside of Biarritz, France.

Both the Madrid and Biarritz properties have been affectionately documented by Miguel Flores-Vianna, who has photographed interiors, patios, and gardens, as well as López-Quesada’s design studios.

_____________

Leaving fans “practically [begging] for a sequel” (Bookpage), critically acclaimed author Kristy Woodson Harvey returns with the second novel in her beloved Peachtree Bluff series, featuring a trio of sisters and their mother who discover a truth that will change not only the way they see themselves, but also how they fit together as a family.

After finding out her military husband is missing in action, middle sister Sloane’s world crumbles as her worst nightmare comes true. She can barely climb out of bed, much less summon the strength to be the parent her children deserve.

Her mother, Ansley, provides a much-needed respite as she puts her personal life on hold to help Sloane and her grandchildren wade through their new grief-stricken lives. But between caring for her own aging mother, her daughters, and her grandchildren, Ansley’s private worry is that secrets from her past will come to light.

But when Sloane’s sisters, Caroline and Emerson, remind Sloane that no matter what, she promised her husband she would carry on for their young sons, Sloane finds the support and courage she needs to chase her biggest dreams—and face her deepest fears. Taking a cue from her middle daughter, Ansley takes her own leap of faith and realizes that, after all this time, she might finally be able to have it all.

Harvey’s signature warmth and wit make this a charming and poignant story of first loves, missed opportunities, and second chances and proves that she is “the next major voice in Southern fiction” (Elin Hilderbrand, New York Times bestselling author).

Beautiful Coffee Table Books to Brighten Your Fall

Good morning, chic readers! We hope you had a great weekend and are reenergized for the week ahead. If not, it might be time to treat yourself to a little something special… Like one of these gorgeous coffee table books!

If you want to hold onto the green of summer as the seasons change, The Gardens of Bunny Mellon, featuring this gorgeous trompe l’oeil garden greenhouse among many, many other fabulous things, is a great place to start.

If your weather is less than sunny and bright, Bunny Mellon’s garden can change all that!

If you’re looking to expand your design horizons and take a peek inside some of American’s most beautiful living rooms (and kitchens… and dining rooms…) look no further than American Originals by William Abranowicz!

Martha Stewart’s Bedford kitchen, as photographed by Abranowicz, was one of our favorite spots. All that gleaming copper!

And Ellen DeGeneres and Portia di Rossi’s living room is a study in staid yet comfortable modernity.

Whether you’re a design junkie or just looking for a little more information on how to tell you Elsie de Wolfes from your Jean-Louis Denotes, Inspired Design by Jennifer Boles needs to be in your library. (The cover alone is too good to pass up!)

With wonderful tips and information on each designer and a sample of his or her work–like designer Stephen Sills’ living room–there’s a new surprise on every page!

Don’t miss Kelly Wearstler’s rendition of the French Regency canopy chair. It’s a highlight for sure!

We hope one (or all!) of these gorgeous new books is gracing your bookshelves–or your coffee table–very soon.

Thanks so much for making Design Chic a part of your day. We always love seeing you here!
