Good morning, chic readers! We are so, so excited that By Invitation Only is back in action. If you aren’t familiar with By Invitation Only, it is a super fun collaboration where favorite bloggers get together every month and write about the same topic. You can visit our friend DA Wolf at Daily Plate of Crazy to find links to all the bloggers participating.
This month, we’re welcoming fall, in our homes and in our lives overall. We don’t know about you, but, for us, welcoming fall means opening the windows, letting fresh air in and savoring the crispness in the air.
Welcoming fall is about adding cozy throws and great textures and favoring shades of tan and pumpkin, gold and creams, the richer hues that correspond so well with the changing leaves and the sun that’s setting just a little earlier already.
Fall is also a fabulous time to celebrate the change of seasons with a fun soiree, which, of course, means getting the kitchen in tip top shape.
We’ll admit it: We like to leave the cooking to the professionals. But the right, gorgeous cookware that makes the food taste as good as the pots and pans look is a necessity when getting ready for a change of season celebration.
I’m in the market for new barstools right now, and these adorable cushions welcome fall in this kitchen with aplomb! A pretty (and delicious!) arrangement of seasonal fruits and veggies makes for a stunning centerpiece, no flowers required.
One of the things on our minds right now is hanging some new pieces of art to really get our houses party ready. These fall tones are very of the moment!
Speaking of works of art, what a perfect setting for a fall fete!
When it comes to parties, getting dressed is half the fun! This Tory Burch outfit hits all the high notes of equestrian style.
Speaking of animal-inspired fashion, this display at Kate Spade is so fabulous! It seems like leopard is everywhere we look this fall. So we must include it in our outfits!
While cocktails and dinner are always fabulous, sometimes having a few good friends for a great cup of coffee is all it takes to turn an ordinary day into a celebration. A mix of antique silver and new pottery, we couldn’t love this juxtaposition any more!
Our friend (He’s so not our friend. But girls can dream, right?) Tom Ford has assembled the ultimate fall collection for making our faces look fabulous no matter what the season holds.
And the brilliant minds from BHG have so many great tips for the perfect paint tips to transform any home for fall. We’re obsessed with Golden Ginger. It may very well be the new not-quite-white we all need so much!
Heirloom quality and forever chic, we didn’t think we could love anything more than Leontine Linens. We didn’t think we could love anything more until we saw the founder of Leontine Linen, Jane Scott Hodges‘s, fabulous New Orleans home, that is!
Jane Scott told One Kings Lane that her “theme for this year has been confidence.”
As such, she and her husband decided to buck convention and make this fabulous historic home something that would suit the needs of their family, friends and entertaining lifestyle.
As big fans of breaking the rules, we’d say that they did so the very best way: beautifully and well. This gorgeous green? Case and point.
A boldly modern kitchen with the fun stools to match is perfect for hosting family and friends.
Abstract art and bold fabrics make this space feel fresh and modern. (Don’t miss that fabulous end table!!)
The more subdued spaces also offer plenty of panache.
Aren’t the bunnies terrific? The perfect splash!
If you thought Leontine was only for staid, subdued spaces, think again. With bright colors and choices galore, these heirlooms are great for any space.
Chic, chic, chic, for sure! But would you expect anything less from the founder of the fabulous Leontine? We know we wouldn’t!
When it comes to creating a fabulous home, we don’t know about you, but we love finding things that can simplify our design process. So, when we stumbled across a gorgeous new site that does just that, Piece + Palette, we were intrigued right away!
Not only are Marisa, Jen and Lauren three best girlfriends from NC but these ladies have style and a concept that is totally unique and, if you ask us, totally brilliant!
They created Piece+Palette to simplify the design process in multiple ways. For one, many of the rooms you see on this post (plus tons more!) are available on their site to shop, in whole or piece by piece. You can literally snag an entire room, which, frankly, sounds amazing, or choose a palette and pick pieces to create a customized room.
If that sounds overwhelming, no need to worry! Interior designer Lauren Burns is on hand to answer questions along the way. You can actually upload pictures of your specific space and get Lauren’s advice on whether they will work.
Or, if you have a specific questions about something that’s been puzzling you–like, whether the light fixture you’ve been eyeing on Piece+Palette is too big for your room–you can get expert advice right away!
Such a huge, huge help when it comes to taking the guesswork out of creating a beautiful, functional room.
If you’ve ever stood in the Benjamin Moore store with 200 blue paint chips in your hand, you know, like we do, that paint colors can be tricky! Benjamin Moore sends high res photos of the paints used in Piece+Palette designer rooms that Lauren has designed, and, better yet, these lovely ladies match paint colors to fabrics they offer on the website.
As if that weren’t enough, Lauren is also on hand to give color advice. If you’ve ever painted and entire room only to realize that you meant to have a warm gray but you got lavender, you can imagine how invaluable this advice is!
These ladies all have different tastes and styles that are represented on the site, but they always agree on these three key principles:
Just because it’s expensive, that doesn’t make it fabulous!
Quality over quantity…always, always, always!
Be unique! Make your home your sanctuary and a reflection of yourself and what you and your family love.
We couldn’t agree any more… If you’re looking for a summer spruce, stop by and see our new southern friends at Piece+Palette!
“Kristy Woodson Harvey really knows how to tell a southern tale. Every single time her stories unwind gently, like a soft wind in Georgia, then that wind catches you off guard and throws you into her characters’ tumultuous lives. Slightly South of Simple is the same. One gracious, old home inherited from Grandma, one mother who has so many secrets if the walls talked they would pour out like lemonade on a hot summer day, and three headstrong sisters, all working their way through the chaotic mess and joy of life, together. I loved it.” (–New York Times bestselling author Cathy Lamb )
It’s been a whirlwind 25 days on the Slightly South of Simplebook tour, where I have had the great pleasure of meeting amazing people in beautiful cities and towns across our Country. I was in Atlanta just a few days ago, and I couldn’t help but think about that time when I saw this fabulous Buckhead home designed by one of our favorite designers, Suzanne Kasler. Take a peek. We think you’ll love it just as much as we do!
