With the days getting (gloriously!) longer, sunnier and warmer, all we want to do is be outside! Now is the perfect time to start thinking about planting, pruning, designing and getting our gardens in tip top shape for spring. It’s only a week away, after all. Take a peek at a few of our favorite gardens–from sleek and simple to deliciously full of blooms, there’s the perfect garden for every yard.

Huge hydrangeas are our most favorite. We hope you’re feeling as full of garden inspiration as we are. Bring on spring!

What Your Favorite Influencers are Saying about my next novel, Feels Like Falling:

Before I even start a Kristy Woodson Harvey novel, I know that I am in for a captivating story laced with delightful characters.  Gray has hit a string of bad luck.  Loss of a loved one, a cheating spouse, and a sister who has made the wrong decision in choosing a spouse.  Enter: Diana, who is facing challenges of her own. One of which is caused by Gray. I can’t wait to start this wonderful book.  I have yet to finish a Kristy Woodson Harvey novel without a smile and a tear.  —Preppy Empty Nester

In Good Taste: Bellwether Landscape Architects

Bellwether Landscape Architects stone arch

We can’t believe it’s back-to-school time already. We love experiencing every season to the fullest here in NC, but none has quite the finite ending point of summer. We don’t know about you, but, for us, this one absolutely flew by!

 Bellwether Landscape Architects planters

We were lamenting the end of long, lazy, sandy days, but these past couple the temperature has dropped just the tiniest bit, the edge has come off the humidity, and we’re sort of loving getting back on schedule. (Sort of.)

Bellwether Landscape Architects outdoor area

We think we’re ready to welcome fall! (Not that it was waiting on us…)

 Bellwether Landscape Architects curb appeal

We’re lucky to be able to spend a good 9-10 months of the year enjoying the outside, but there is no time quite as sweet or special as the fall.

Bellwether Landscape Architects boxwood pathway

Perfect temperatures, changing foliage and crisp evenings make it the ideal time for dining, playing and relaxing al fresco!

Bellwether Landscape Architects garage and pool house

Nowhere is that better than in our own backyards.

Bellwether Landscape Architects outdoor area

And, trust, us, we are taking copious notes and tons of inspiration from these stunning outdoor spaces by Bellwether Landscape Architects.

But it is the right landscaping that pulls the look together. Are you dreaming of any updates to your yard this fall?

Peachtree Bluff Series

Harvey, considered to be the “it girl” of Southern fiction, introduces the first novel in the Peachtree Bluff Series this spring. Child, this book is everything! We’re hoping to see this soapy read on the Hallmark Channel.” (—Jamey Giddens Daytime Confidential)

Things We Love: Boxwoods in the Garden

Hollander Design

With the days growing longer and the sun getting warmer, we are savoring every moment we have outside–especially after such a cold, harsh winter. We don’t know about you, but we’re focusing on sprucing our yards for spring right now. We love flowers and bright blooms and pretty colors intermixed, but when it comes to the staple backdrop, nothing is better than beautiful boxwoods. From a small hedge to an entire garden, boxwoods are incredibly versatile and look great anywhere. Check out a few of our favorite boxwood gardens and gain a bit of inspiration of your own!

Thanks so much for making Design Chic a part of your day. We always love it when you stop by!

There might not be anyone in the world who loves her hometown quite as much as I do. All the amazing people of Salisbury, NC were so supportive and encouraging when I was growing up and continue to be so now. I am so proud and honored that my books, THE SECRET TO SOUTHERN CHARM and SLIGHTLY SOUTH OF SIMPLE, were #1 and #3 on Rowan County’s 2018 BESTSELLER LIST. Thank you, thank you to Wendy Persse and everyone at South Main Book Company for handselling my stories all year long—and to all the readers everywhere who allow me to keep doing what I love year after year.
