House Tour: Historic Beauty in Mill Valley

Mill Valley house

If you aren’t familiar with the talented team at G.P. Schafer Architects and the fabulous London based designer Rita Konig, you definitely need to keep reading!  Their portfolios are so bursting with gorgeous homes that it was hard to choose which to showcase first. But one look at this Mill Valley House,  we knew it was the one. The young couple who purchased the home wanted to maintain the original charm of this 1870s stunner while updating it for modern living. Take a peek and you’ll see that the dream team of GPSA  and Rita Konig achieved just that!

House Tour: Historical Concepts

House Tour: Historical Concepts

Trust us, there’s nothing we love better than an old house. (We have the houses to prove it.) But, well, historical homes come with their fair share of, let’s say, issues.

So we love the idea of the new old house. You know the kind. It looks like an old house, but is built brand new, i.e., you probably won’t have to have a handyman on payroll.

That look can be very, very tricky to achieve, as adding that character isn’t something just anyone can pull off.

But we think Historical Concepts does the old new house better than pretty much anyone in the business, building new houses that ooze old world charm.

It is the little things that turn the ordinary into the extraordinary, like these beautiful blue doors.

And unexpected elements–like this unique ceiling–set this kitchen apart from the pack.

Beautiful windows with lots of light and a marble farmhouse sink make a stunning statement.

Talk about a dream pantry! Wow! And we couldn’t love this library ladder any more.

This wood paneling adds so much charm to an other basic stairwell.

And a barrel ceiling makes this hallway an experience.

Bold navy blue trim adds an instant nautical feel–and these beds are so chic!

Every space feels like an occasion with Historical Concepts.

But–no surprises here–we think we might love the outdoor spaces most of all!

What is your favorite way to make a new house feel old?

Thanks so much for making Design Chic a part of your day. We always love it when you stop by!

The Cover Reveal for My New Novel The Secret to Southern Charm

kristy woodson harvey

MORE ABOUT MY BOOK:

Leaving fans “practically [begging] for a sequel” (Bookpage), critically-acclaimed author Kristy Woodson Harvey returns with the second novel in her beloved Peachtree Bluff series, featuring a trio of sisters and their mother who discover a truth that will change not only the way they see themselves, but also how they fit together as a family.

After finding out her military husband is missing in action, middle sister Sloane’s world crumbles as her worst nightmare comes true. She can barely climb out of bed, much less summon the strength to be the parent her children deserve.

Her mother, Ansley, provides a much-needed respite as she puts her personal life on hold to help Sloane and her grandchildren wade through their new grief-stricken lives. But between caring for her own aging mother, her daughters, and her grandchildren, Ansley’s private worry is that secrets from her past will come to light.

But when Sloane’s sisters, Caroline and Emerson, remind Sloane that no matter what, she promised her husband she would carry on for their young sons, Sloane finds the support and courage she needs to chase her biggest dreams—and face her deepest fears. Taking a cue from her middle daughter, Ansley takes her own leap of faith and realizes that, after all this time, she might finally be able to have it all.

Harvey’s signature warmth and wit make this a charming and poignant story of first loves, missed opportunities, and second chances that proves why she is the next major voice in Southern fiction” (Elin Hilderbrand, New York Times bestselling author).

Did you hear that book #2 is ready for PREORDER? To celebrate, we are giving away a $100 Amazon gift card! The winner will be announced September 18!
