I would LOVE for you to join me as I continue the book tour for my NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING novel Under the Southern Sky!

  • UNDER THE SOUTHERN SKY

Two childhood friends discover that love—and family—can be found in unconventional ways in this timely, moving novel from the USA TODAY bestselling author of the “beautifully Southern, evocative Peachtree Bluff series” (Kristin Harmel, NYT Bestselling Author of The Book of Lost Names.)

Recently separated Amelia Saxton, a dedicated journalist, never expected that uncovering the biggest story of her career would become deeply personal. But when she discovers that a cluster of embryos belonging to her childhood friend Parker and his late wife Greer have been deemed “abandoned,” she’s put in the unenviable position of telling Parker—and dredging up old wounds in the process.

Parker has been unable to move forward since the loss of his beloved wife three years ago. He has all but forgotten about the frozen embryos, but once Amelia reveals her discovery, he knows that if he ever wants to get a part of Greer back, he’ll need to accept his fate as a single father and find a surrogate.

Each dealing with their own private griefs, Parker and Amelia slowly begin to find solace in one another as they navigate an uncertain future against the backdrop of the pristine waters of their childhood home, Cape Carolina. The journey of self-discovery leads them to an unforgettable and life-changing lesson: Family—the one you’re born into and the one you choose—is always closer than you think.

From “the next major voice in Southern fiction” (Elin Hilderbrand, #1 New York Times bestselling author), Under the Southern Sky is a fresh and unforgettable exploration of love, friendship, and the unbreakable ties that bind.

Good morning, chic readers! It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas already this year–and we couldn’t love it any more. I found out today that there is less time than usual between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I absolutely had to get on my holiday shopping stat. (Plus, all the music and movies and twinkle lights have begun and are getting to me!)

Hand Stitched White Coverlet

One of our favorite things is gathering all the family together for Thanksgiving and Christmas and, to that end, we are creating a guest-ready bedroom so our visitors can rest in style.

We are love, love, loving this gorgeous John Robshaw bedding that is nothing short of guest-perfect. (Okay, let’s be real: It’s us perfect, too, and we’ll be stealing it back stat!) The coverlet is soft to the touch and oh-so-cozy, the comforter inside this duvet is soft, fluffy and gorgeous, and the fabrics are absolutely to-die-for.

As with everything in design, it’s the details that make these textiles not just beautiful but extraordinary. Hand block painting, hand block stitching and the finest down and feathers available set these linens apart and are one of the facets of John Robshaw’s vision for his spectacular brand.

We could barely resist climbing into this bed ourselves once we had made it.

But, well, we couldn’t bear to wrinkle the softest, most luxurious sheets. The detail is simple, elegant and so inviting.

Now we feel like our guest room is ready to go for anyone who wants to join us for the holiday season!

House Tour: East Hampton Chic by Marshall Watson

Good morning, chic readers! If you’re in the mood for a beach vacation, come along with us today! If you’ve followed Design Chic for any length of time you know that we are obsessed with Marshall Watson‘s peerless work. (And really just Marshall, in general, truth be told.)

Watson’s own East Hampton escape is the stuff that dream home fantasies are made of. I’ve seen it in pictures, and I am beside myself that I get to go to Watson and his husband Paul Sparks’s weekend retreat in real life!

I will be appearing at the East Hampton Author’s Night on August 10, and Watson and Sparks are incredibly graciously hosting my Author Dinner afterward.

I can’t decide what I’m most excited about, but I think it’s the garden. If you want a little sneak peek, check out this gorgeous article in Galerie Magazine. See what I mean? As someone with a decidedly non-green thumb, I can’t even imagine…

What we marvel most over when it comes to Watson’s work is how diverse it is. He truly creates magic in every space he designs, but in a way that is completely suited to the homeowners’ tastes.

This stunning East Hampton home has a personality very different from Watson’s own, while still maintaining his signature sense of balance, light and emphasis on the details.

Architectural details on the ceiling and a fun backsplash, for instance, create instant personality in this kitchen, while classic cabinetry and white marble lend staying power to the look.

Touches of coastal influence punctuate the design scheme, while an overarching sense of serenity and calm pervades, as if wordlessly reminding every person who enters that he or she is on vacation.

Simply touring this chic retreat today has felt like, well, a day at the beach! A quick nap in this perfect bedroom wouldn’t hurt either…

If you haven’t picked up Watson’s book, The Art of Elegance, don’t wait another minute. Watson’s breadth of talent is so vast that it’s like having several books in one. It’s a classic in its own time.

Thanks so much for stopping by Design Chic today. We always love seeing you here!

Caroline’s House in the Hamptons

Good morning, chic readers! We hope you are having a great day. The Southern Side of Paradise (tour dates below!) is in full swing and we hope to see you while we’re traveling!

In my last novel, The Secret to Southern Charm, Peachtree Bluff’s least Southern sister, Caroline, has a gorgeous Hamptons home that is the site of one of the most memorable chapters of the book. And, this year, I’ll be touring in the Hamptons as well! Today, we are imagining what Caroline’s Hamptons Beach House might look like. Take a peek for yourself!

From The Secret to Southern Charm:

CAROLINE’S HOUSE IN EAST Hampton suited her perfectly.

It wasn’t big, and it wasn’t on the water, but every inch of it was elegant and just modern enough.

The entire palette was water blues and creams with touches of gold, seagrass, and plenty of natural beauty from resin coral and oyster shells.

I had never been to it, of course. And walking through the front door, I instantly felt calm.

I assumed that’s what Mom had been going for when she designed it.

We can picture all the members of the Murphy clan gathering in a spot just like this at Caroline’s gorgeous home, decorated for her by Ansley, her interior designer mother…

And receiving some of the biggest news of their lives.

In The Southern Side of Paradise, that news would most certainly surround youngest sister Emerson who has her fair share of conflict in this novel.

We imagine this home to be perfectly styled but unfussy. This chicken wire sink is just that!

What’s the beach without blues? A rattan nightstand and vintage bathing suit print are perfect for a casual Hamptons house.

We love any beach cottage with shingles. Could this possibly be any more charming? Thanks so much for making Design Chic a part of your day!
