House Tour: Caroline’s Chic Hamptons Beach House

The Secret to Southern Charm - Hamptons Beach House

Good morning, chic readers! We hope you are having a great day. The Secret to Southern Charm tour (select dates below!) is in full swing and we hope to see you while we’re traveling!

The Secret to Southern Charm - Hamptons Beach House

In my latest novel, The Secret to Southern Charm, Peachtree Bluff’s least Southern sister, Caroline, has a gorgeous Hamptons home that is the site of one of the most memorable chapters of the book. Today, we are imagining what Caroline’s Hamptons Beach House might look like. Take a peek for yourself!

The Secret to Southern Charm - Hamptons Beach House

From The Secret to Southern Charm:

CAROLINE’S HOUSE IN EAST Hampton suited her perfectly.

The Secret to Southern Charm - kitchen - Hamptons Beach House

It wasn’t big, and it wasn’t on the water, but every inch of it was elegant and just modern enough. The Secret to Southern Charm - kitchen - Hamptons Beach House

The entire palette was water blues and creams with touches of gold, seagrass, and plenty of natural beauty from resin coral and oyster shells.

The Secret to Southern Charm - sunroom - Hamptons Beach House

I had never been to it, of course. And walking through the front door, I instantly felt calm.

The Secret to Southern Charm - bedroom - Hamptons Beach House

I assumed that’s what Mom had been going for when she designed it.

The Secret to Southern Charm - sitting room - Hamptons Beach House

We can picture all the members of the Murphy clan gathering in a spot just like this at Caroline’s gorgeous home, decorated for her by Ansley, her interior designer mother…

The Secret to Southern Charm - Hamptons Beach House

And receiving some of the biggest news of their lives.

The Secret to Southern Charm - bathroom - Hamptons Beach House

There are indoor showers, outdoor showers and then there are showers that cross all the boundaries! This one is insanely gorgeous–and the best of both worlds!

The Secret to Southern Charm - bathroom- Hamptons Beach House

We imagine this home to be perfectly styled but unfussy. This chicken wire sink is just that!

The Secret to Southern Charm - bedroom - Hamptons Beach House

What’s the beach without blues? A rattan nightstand and vintage bathing suit print are perfect for a casual Hamptons house.

The Secret to Southern Charm

We love any beach cottage with shingles. Could this possibly be any more charming?

The Secret to Southern Charm - cottage

We hope you have loved this gorgeous New England home as much as we have. Thanks so much for making Design Chic a part of your day!

Places We Love: Beaufort, South Carolina

Oaks

There is so much to love about Beaufort, South Carolina. The Avenue of the Oaks.

Beaufort cottage

The historic Beaufort cottages.

The gorgeous design and architecture of newer homes by the crazy talented Allison Ramsey–who does chic, coastal style with tons of charm like no one else!

Allison Ramsey

And, on March 15, the launch of my fourth novel, the second book in the Peachtree Bluff series, The Secret to Southern Charm

Allison Ramsey

I visited Beaufort, SC for the very first time last year during a talk to a fabulous crowd at the University of South Carolina Beaufort’s author luncheon series. (We had the BEST time.)

Allison Ramsey

Amazing author Cassandra King invited me into the home she shared with her late husband, Pat Conroy, and, truly, stepping into their personal library was a moment I will never forget, something that I will tell my grandchildren about one day.

Allison Ramsey bedroom

March 15, I will be back in beautiful Beaufort to launch my book at a fundraiser for the Pat Conroy Literary Center held at the incredible historic Barnwell-Gough house, currently owned by Mark and Alison Gouilloud.

Allison Ramsey kitchen

Built in 1789, The Barnwell-Gough House is made of tabby—a cement mixture using oyster shells—covered with stucco, in contrast to Ansley’s home in The Secret to Southern Charm, and the homes she designs, which are mostly white clapboard. But their sense of history is what binds them. It is, after all, our pasts that make for the most compelling stories.

Allison Ramsey kitchen

I would love to see you there, of course!

Allison Ramsey porch

So much so that I am hosting a giveaway of two tickets to the evening event, which includes cocktails, heavy hors d’oeuvres and a signed copy of The Secret to Southern Charm.

porch

I’ll be making a fun talk that night about the journey to The Secret to Southern Charm and how the inspiration for the historical remodels that Ansley undertakes in the novels came from my own experiences renovating historic homes.

Allison Ramsey guest house

In addition to the two tickets, we are also going to provide one night’s lodging at the super cool City Loft Hotel (where we have booked a block for the night of March 15!).

After the fun of the cocktail party, spend the day touring Old Sheldon Church Ruins, visiting the St. Helena Memorial Gardens, the Gullah cemetery where Pat Conroy is buried, and shopping and dining in downtown Beaufort. It’s the perfect mini-getaway!

Enter to win TWO tickets to the launch event and 1 night at Beaufort’s City Loft Hotel by doing any or all of the following:

  1. Visit either my personal page, Design Chic or Kristy Woodson Harvey Author on Facebook and share the post about the giveaway and tag the friend you’d like to bring! (3 entries)
  2. Follow us on Instagram–@kristywharvey–and respond to the Instagram post by tagging the friend you’d like to bring. (3 entries)
  3. Preorder a copy of THE SECRET TO SOUTHERN CHARM from your venue of choice and email me at [email protected] to let me know. (5 entries)

That’s it! We’ll close the giveaway on Saturday, February 10 at 10 am and announce the winner by the evening! Thanks so much for participating.

Good morning, chic readers and Happy Martin Luther King Day! If there’s any day to reflect on the lives we want to lead and the people we want to become, it’s today.

Cantley & Co

On the heels of New Year’s, we are slowly addressing our New Year’s Resolutions. Some of them change from year to year, but, alas, some of them are the same.

kitchen organization
Sage Design

But maybe that’s because they are less like resolutions and more things that we keep needing to address year after year to keep everything in our houses running smoothly.

Kitchen organization is something we’re constantly refining, editing and trying to make better than it was the year before.

kitchen organization
Cantley & Co.

On my list this year is getting new glassware. I don’t know what happens, but I guess over a period of being married for ten years, glasses have gotten broken, new ones have come in a few at a time, and it’s just time for a clean sweep. We have glass kitchen cabinets like these, so it’s very important that everything match!

Now this is a necessity. We love, love, love using linens, and this would make using them in the kitchen such a breeze!
