In Good Taste: Bria Hammel Interior Design

Good morning, friends! We hope you had a fantastic Martin Luther King Day. We always pack those little bonus days off from school with lots of activities and fun. I think I look forward to them as much as my son does. So we were both really bummed out that he had a sore throat. (Well, to be fair, it was much worse for him than it was for me since he was the one that had to be sick!)

He met his reading goal of 1,000 pages this month–I know, 1,000. First grade is not what it used to be!–so I was going to take him to Lowe’s and Dank Burrito, which was what he had requested if he met said goal.

Yes, Lowe’s is my first grader’s favorite store. He likes to build anything and everything. Unfortunately, I had to do the responsible mom thing and say no to burritos and boards. (And torx screws. He taught me what those were.)

But, today is a new day, and we’re saying yes, yes, yes to this lighting! Demure in the dining room? Never!

From the flowers in the sink to the perfect pendant light, this kitchen is positively dreamy.

And it’s no surprise, really.

Because dreamy, as you can see, is what Bria Hammel Interior Design does

In these designs, as in life, it really is the little things. The instant chicness (and practicality!) of a library ladder in the kitchen,

And a fume hood that the kitchen wears around like a jaw-dropping piece of jewelry.

Hammel does a twist on tradition so, so well,

And makes even the most industrial of spaces an experience.

Speaking of experiences… Have you ever? A reading nook fit for a princess! We think we’d like to curl up in one of these! But not on a sick day. Maybe on a burrito day. After a trip to Lowe’s. Whatever your favorites are, we hope you get to do them all today!

Thanks so much for stopping by Design Chic. We love seeing you!

House Tour: Historical Concepts

House Tour: Historical Concepts

Trust us, there’s nothing we love better than an old house. (We have the houses to prove it.) But, well, historical homes come with their fair share of, let’s say, issues.

So we love the idea of the new old house. You know the kind. It looks like an old house, but is built brand new, i.e., you probably won’t have to have a handyman on payroll.

That look can be very, very tricky to achieve, as adding that character isn’t something just anyone can pull off.

But we think Historical Concepts does the old new house better than pretty much anyone in the business, building new houses that ooze old world charm.

It is the little things that turn the ordinary into the extraordinary, like these beautiful blue doors.

And unexpected elements–like this unique ceiling–set this kitchen apart from the pack.

Beautiful windows with lots of light and a marble farmhouse sink make a stunning statement.

Talk about a dream pantry! Wow! And we couldn’t love this library ladder any more.

This wood paneling adds so much charm to an other basic stairwell.

And a barrel ceiling makes this hallway an experience.

Bold navy blue trim adds an instant nautical feel–and these beds are so chic!

Every space feels like an occasion with Historical Concepts.

But–no surprises here–we think we might love the outdoor spaces most of all!

What is your favorite way to make a new house feel old?

Thanks so much for making Design Chic a part of your day. We always love it when you stop by!
