In Good Taste: Creative Tonic

Remember when “Southern decor” meant an overload of needlepoint, fake florals that weren’t fooling anyone and displaying so much of Grandmother’s silver that you couldn’t even see the buffet below it?

Well, (thankfully!) those days are no more, and the duo behind Creative Tonic, Courtnay Tartt Elias and Lila Chumbley Malone, is doing its part to create Southern homes that incorporate all the elegance and tradition we love in Southern design while making it up to date and fresh, fresh, fresh!

This kitchen is just one very elegant example.

We love the texture these barstools add to this marble kitchen (and are partial to them because we have these Serena & Lily beauties too!).

And the statement lighting is just one of many elements that blends these open spaces while still making them feel distinct from one another.

But Creative Tonic isn’t a one-note team. These two are pros at creating spaces that fit their owners’ wants and needs.

Elias in particular is known for her use of color, and this dining room is just one example of her keen eye and understanding of something that can be a bit tricky.

Symmetry in a bedroom can make it feel so serene–

And we probably don’t have to tell you that we’re a little partial to the UNC pennant that’s a perfect part of this decor!

If the clothes make the man, we’re pretty sure that the closet makes the clothes… This one is utter perfection!

Talk about powdering your nose in style… This bath might be small on space, but it is big on taste!

A pretty pale lavender is the perfect complement to this marble bath–and brass accents add to the warm feeling.

All we know is that the fabulous team behind this Houston firm is taking Southern style to a whole new level–and we couldn’t love their good taste any more!

What Black White + Kuhl is Saying about The Secret to Southern Charm:

While the book release date is not until April 4th, I was lucky enough to get an advance copy from Kristy to read and share with my book club. We plan to meet for dinner in a few weeks and share our reviews and discussion highlights in an upcoming post. This is the second book in the Peachtree Bluff series (Slightly South of Simple was the first) telling the story of Ansley her three daughters. I can’t wait to find out what happens to these women as their story of love, loss, relationships and second chances continues! —Michelle Black White

The first line of Amanda Teal Design‘s About Us page says, “We create gracious homes.”

It’s a mission simple as and well thought out as these designers’ gorgeous work. (We’re loving these Serena & Lily Riviera Side Chairs in this beyond charming breakfast nook!)

Each of these spaces is so gracious, so welcoming that we can imagine calling them home.

And if that isn’t good taste, we don’t know what is!

From the sweeping and grand…

To the cozy and intimate…

These bright, light-filled rooms are the pinnacle of style.

We love using a desk instead of a night table–especially in a guest bedroom,

And fresh flowers make everything better.

The perfect textures and accents make even the grandest bedroom feel like a perfect resting spot,

And simple looks amazing by the sea.

From mirrors to counters, floors to faucets, not a single detail is overlooked. And that’s why Amanda Teal Design is always in good taste!

Creating a Dream Home–Down to the Last Detail

What do you think of when you hear the term “dream home?”

For us, so many different things come to mind.

We could dream of a tiny farm cottage with a picket fence and trailing ivy…

Or a sprawling country estate with horses and plenty of room for beautiful gardens

A quaint ski chalet…

Or a cedar shake New England home with plenty of room for visiting guests.

For us, a dream home could be anything, really, where we are surrounded by things we love–and people we love, of course.

No matter how you define “dream home,” we feel pretty sure that this qualifies as one.

The Fox Group.  has created an enviable space with so many stunning details it would be impossible to pick a favorite–

And we would could look at these photos a thousand times and still find something new to delight and inspire.

From open shelving on a very luxe level,

To extraordinary hardware,

Marble as far as the eye can see,

To a workspace for everyone in the family,

Each perfectly orchestrated area of this family house makes it feel like home.

We think it would be nearly impossible to pick a favorite room, a favorite detail. But if we had to, we think the bathroom in this dream home might take the cake!

What is your idea of a dream home? Is is luxurious, modern and spacious like this or something a little simpler? We’d love to know!

We hope you had an amazing weekend and are so grateful that you stopped by Design Chic to spend a bit of your Monday with us. We always love it when you do!

Happy Super Bowl Monday, friends! We are watching the big game while writing this post, so no comments as of yet on who won–or really even any comments on the commercials, although what we’ve seen so far has been pretty great.

To a Saarinen table turned super swanky, we are loving the marble infusion that seems to be taking place in some of the world’s most beautiful rooms.

And these shelves? Talk about something fabulous to do with your remnants! (Well… It might take a little more than your remnants. But it’s a good justification anyway.)

House Tour:Lee Kleinhelter Home

silver

We talk a lot on Design Chic about combining the old with the new. Grandmother’s silver on your tulip table, fun buffet lamps on an antique buffet, a new, shiny bar cart filled with Grandfather’s decanters. There are so many fantastic ways to incorporate the old with the new on the inside. But, on the outside? It’s harder to pull off. Perhaps that’s why we’re so enchanted with Kevin and Lee Kleinhelter’s gorgeous Atlanta home. (We’ve talked about Lee’s Good Taste before.) It’s streamlined and modern but still feels familiar.

And, inside, it gets even better.
