10 Favorite Kitchens from Studio McGee

We absolutely adore the work of Studio McGee–and husband/wife team Syd and Shea McGee.

Their kitchens are enviable to say the very least.

As we round the corner to one year out of our house since Hurricane Florence, one of the things we miss the very most is our kitchen

These beauties are reminding us of all the reasons why.

Ample work space…

Chic designer appliances,

And special touches–like this beyond adorable Dutch door!–are all hallmarks of a Studio McGee kitchen.

Studio McGee proves that chic lighting absolutely belongs in the kitchen,

And that, right now, mixing metals is practically mandatory.

We couldn’t love these beautiful kitchens any more!

The Pros and Cons of a Marble Kitchen

.Every time we post our kitchen on Design Chic, we get flooded with emails asking the same question: How has your white marble worn? It’s a good question because, if you know anything about marble, you know it gets it’s share of flak in the wear-and-tear department When we got it, we knew the risks. We’d heard the horror stories. Etching, staining, imperfections left and right. Even still, we wanted white marble. We just did. Maybe it wasn’t particularly kid friendly and maybe it wasn’t as hardy as some stones. But it achieved the look we wanted. It was the countertop we had been dreaming of since we walked into that kitchen, which, at the time, was dark, musty and had chipped laminate countertops and 1950s appliances.

We decided after much research to go with honed marble, instead of polished. We had polished marble at home and I was always having it polished and perfected. After six years of wear and tear, our honed white marble is perhaps even more beautiful than the day it came into our home.

We had it sealed, which certainly helped, and, truth be told, there’s some etching and some scratching and if you look really closely, there’s a stain or two.

But, in some ways, that has made it even better, like it has remembered every sandy pimento cheese sandwich, every cocktail party, every family dinner, every glass of wine with a best friend. It’s growing older with grace, and we feel pretty certain that its dancing days are far from over.

Thanks so much for making Design Chic a part of your day. We always love it when you stop by!
