Good morning, friends! Summer in our houses has officially begun–and that can only mean one thing: time for summer vacation! But before we head off on ours, there’s nothing like coming home to a sparklingly clean house. We’re loving these stunning inspiration photos for getting the kitchen all spruced and organized.
Aren’t they fabulous? Wishing you all a wonderful day!
“Kristy has now penned 3 Bestselling novels, all of which I have plowed through so fast I am left waiting in anticipation for the release of her next book. Kristy specializes in writing feel-good stories about women, all set in the South.” —Celia, After Orange County

Good morning, chic readers! We hope you are having a great day. Today is officially the last day of school–the last day of preschool, even–which is incredibly hard to believe. I feel like I should be upset and contemplative over the fact that preschool is over and next year is Kindergarten, but I am so excited for summer I can’t muster much sadness! With almost three months of sandy feel, pool time and plenty of guests ahead of us, all we know is that our bathrooms are getting ready to work over time!
From replacing that chipped tile to finally getting that glass shower stall you’ve been dreaming of, there’s really no time like summer to get your bathrooms in great shape before the year ahead.
We know so many people that are making the most of their space by ditching their bathtubs all together in favor of generously sized showers.
While we love a gorgeous shower as much as the next person, we can’t even imagine not having a bathtub! It’s the perfect relaxing end to a day–especially when it looks like this! What about you? Could you ditch your bathtub for good?
One of the things that we’re always working on, something that can seem a little insignificant but adds to the overall spa-like feel, is finding beautiful toiletries to go inside our showers. It’s so nice to see through those pretty glass doors to bottles that look pretty and streamlined.
A gorgeous vanity is the perfect finishing touch in a well-appointed bathroom. We love the drawers for keeping everything neat and organized.
While we love frameless, elegant shower doors that seem to disappear, there’s no arguing that these steel doors make such a chic statement with a hint of industrial thrown in!
If we’re going to spend the next three months soaking sandy bathing suits and rinsing chlorine-laden hair, why not have the most beautiful possible spot to do so? We don’t know about you, but we’re so looking forward to summer, gritty floors and all!
“If you want a wonderful book to read now or on Spring break or summer vacation order this book out in April. I feel very lucky to have received an advance copy and I was hooked 4 pages into reading it. That never happens to me unless it is a decorating book, trust me this book is wonderful. I can totally visualize everything she describes in writing. I am a visual gal so this is fun for me. This needs to be made into a movie. It looks like my beautiful Southern friend Kristy Woodson Harvey has done it again with… Slightly South of Simple.” Kathysue Perdue, Good Life of Design

There’s something so soothing about bringing bits of nature into our design schemes. From houseplants to fruits and veggies, minerals to natural stone, there are so many ways to incorporate all that Mother Nature has to offer into our homes.
Of all the places that natural surfaces can be incorporated in our homes, we think the kitchen might be our favorite.
But using stone in the kitchen isn’t all that cut and dry. Which surfaces are most durable? Which are best for cutting? What are the pros and cons of each?
So many factors and aspects go into choosing so many of the details of our homes. That’s we are so glad to have found Use Natural Stone, a site that features guides and detailed descriptions of many natural surfaces and their best purposes.
We are especially fond of the fact sheets on the site that break down information about each of the popular stones. Sandstone, for example, is a material we love but didn’t know much about. And all the information was right there!
One of our favorite things about stone in the kitchen is that, no matter what you choose, if it’s natural, it’s going to look fabulous with pretty much any color scheme.
Can’t choose just one stone? No problem! This combination of soapstone and marble is not only aesthetically pleasing but also creates different surfaces for areas that get worked a little harder.
If you love the durability of granite but are tired of seeing the same old countertops, honed granite is a beautiful choice. It’s one of our current favorites, in fact!Black granite is an easy way to create that enviable, classic black and white color palette. With a little bit of wood mixed in, it’s perfect!
Want a look that’s uniquely yours? We’ve never seen anything quite like this blue honed granite! No matter your style, there’s the right natural stone for any home. If you were remodeling your kitchen, which stone would you pick?
I’ll be in Palos Verdes, CA on August 24 and San Diego on August 25. (Event details to follow!) If you live nearby and are interested in the tour coming to your home, shop or book club, please let me know at [email protected] I’d love to meet you!
Good morning, chic readers! We hope you had the most wonderful weekend. I got to spend an incredible weekend in beautiful Hoover, Alabama with some of my favorite authors and a few hundred of the best readers around. It was a great trip!
But, of course, there’s nothing like getting back home.
When it comes to the heart of the home, counters play such an important part in the overall look.
Marble is beautiful, granite is great, quartz is fabulous…
But for the ultimate in food prep, nothing beats butcher block.
We love the the look of the butcher block but its versatility is the real kitchen star.
We don’t know about you, but we need functionality in the kitchen.
Even a small section of butcher block can make food prep quick and simple.
Happy Super Bowl Monday, friends! We are watching the big game while writing this post, so no comments as of yet on who won–or really even any comments on the commercials, although what we’ve seen so far has been pretty great. You know we love marble countertops. But now we feel like the beautiful stone is everywhere we look! From a gorgeous fireplace…
To a Saarinen table turned super swanky, we are loving the marble infusion that seems to be taking place in some of the world’s most beautiful rooms.
Countertops are luscious. But a marble fume hood? That’s taking things to a whole other glamorous level!
And these shelves? Talk about something fabulous to do with your remnants! (Well… It might take a little more than your remnants. But it’s a good justification anyway.)
Marble farmhouse sink? Yes, please!
These tiles are positively luscious.
Accessories are a great–and much more cost-effective–way to add a little luxe to your tablescape.
In fact, this trivet is a luxe touch for a countertop or party for under $20! In a variety of prices, shapes, sizes and rooms, marble is always a luscious touch. It’s no wonder marble mania is taking over!
Are you a marble fan?
Hoping your Monday is great. Looking forward to seeing which team wins!

We love how simple this kitchen is. You can never go wrong with black, white and a touch of natural fiber.
It took us a while to warm up to the idea, but we are now big fans of mixing metals. This kitchen is case and point!
These pendants are perfection.
Speaking of pendants, this is one of our favorites. It’s even more stunning in real life!
Saarinen tables are always a favorite. Sleek, modern and totally functional, they’re a great pick for a breakfast room, especially one that isn’t huge.
The right combination of high and low, rustic and modern, this gorgeous bathroom is the perfect mix of favorite elements blended together in just the right way.
A great wallpaper can totally make a bathroom. We love the vintage feel of this marble sink. The simplicity of these fixtures is a perfect complement to the fun wallpaper. All in all, we think you’ll agree that the work of Park and Oak is in good taste. Which is your favorite room?
We hope you’re having a great day and staying warm!
