House Tour: Montana Mountains Ski House

Get out your parka, pull on your ski boots, and come with us to this gorgeous Montana Mountains Ski House by Gary McBournie.

With the perfect deep tones,

And layered designs,

And warm, cozy features,

This is the ultimate spot for winter skiing, an aprés ski celebration,

And waking up the next morning to admire the view–and do it all over again!

A beautiful blend of textures, tones and colors gives this house a uniform and unique look,

While unique furnishings and architectural details create a strong sense of place.

We have winter and skiing and fires and cocoa on the brain, but this is definitely the type of place that’s perfect for all four seasons.

Thank you so much for stopping by Design Chic today. We always love seeing you here!

Don’t forget: Southern Living will be revealing the first peek at the cover for my new novel, THE SOUTHERN SIDE OF PARADISE, this Thursday at 12 pm.

In Good Taste: Leigh Giles Interior Design

Leigh Giles Interior Design entrance

It’s hard to believe that it’s MAY! I am so excited I can hardly stand it. Because that means school is out soon and that means it’s beach time!

Leigh Giles Interior Design entrance

I used to be the girl who changed bathing suits eleven times a day (that’s not an exaggeration) because she couldn’t stand the sand, so I’m not sure when exactly I started to love it so much. But, however it happened, all we know is that we’re ready for summer to start in earnest!

Leigh Giles Interior Design living room

While we are on North Carolina’s coast, Leigh Giles, fabulous designer and fellow Tarheel, will be packing her bags and leaving her Virginia home to head to one of our favorite spots in North Carolina’s mountains: Blowing Rock.

While we’re baking in the sun, she’ll be nice and cool. We might have to go say hi to her when we need a break from the heat!

And, we know that, no matter what else Leigh is doing, she will be choreographing interiors with a touch of tradition, loads of style…

And a helping heaping of the fine art that she enjoys employing so much.

New York-educated and Atlanta-trained, Leigh’s classic designs caught our eye right off the bat.

Leigh Giles Interior Design but and white

Blue and white never goes out of style, and a bookcase full feels welcoming and warm.

Leigh also tackles the new and modern with particular skill, making spaces feel fresh, open and up to date.

Unexpected touches–like lamps on the island!–set this designer’s work apart from the pack.

Leigh Giles Interior Design bedroom

You know we’re huge fans of twin beds in guest rooms. This one feels positively decadent.

Full bedskirts and splurge-worthy linens create rooms that feel homey. These guests might want to stay a little too long!

This room is perfect for coming home to after a long day.

A small settee or loveseat at the end of a bed is one of our favorite touches.

Black and white make a bold porch statement against a lush green backdrop.

This pool house is the kind of place that could make us ditch our beach plans and stay home all summer long! Are you getting ready for summer? Do you have any fun plans?

Don’t forget Mom on May 14! Our pick for a gift – of course, The Secret to Southern Charm!

House Tour: Blue Ridge Mountains Beauty

Blue Ridge Mountains House

We didn’t think the Blue Ridge mountains could get any more gorgeous, but it has happened. Atlanta architect D. Stanley Dixon and interior designer Heather Dewberry have made even more magic in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. We know. We’re really excited too! From the wood elements to the color palette it’s utter perfection at every turn. We hope you enjoy as much as we do!

In Good Taste: Muskoska Living Design

For us, the holidays are about coming together,

A time to gather family and friends to celebrate a year well lived and that the best is yet to come.

So the holidays are probably the time that we’re most focused on our homes, on how well our living spaces entertain, how cozy our dining rooms are.

Fabulous Muskoka Living of Ontario creates spaces that are absolutely perfect for special gatherings and entertaining–not only at the holidays but all year long.

We can picture a festive Thanksgiving lunch around this table,

A quick summer breakfast at this island

before jumping into the lake, of course!

Fall cocktails by this fireplace would be absolutely spectacular,

And, of course, Muskoka Living even created the perfect space for us to clean up when it’s all over!

From charming architectural details that can’t help but define a space,

To cozy, warm areas for finding calm and peace,

From a quick spruce to total design-build management

Muskoka Living creates the kind of spaces that we would want to return to again and again–holidays or not!

What do you do to prepare for a holiday crowd?

Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by our little corner of the web today. We always love seeing you!

House Tour: Cashiers

We love finding new places we love, and, as you probably gathered from our post yesterday, we absolutely loved Cashiers, NC!

We stayed in a charming mountain cabin that was one of the highlights of the trip. Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles called this home “Cashiers Cool,” and we think that’s the perfect description!

This house embodies that enviable rustic luxury that provides the best of all possible design worlds.

A clean, sleek, streamlined heart of the home sets the tone for a beautiful escape.

Creating a mountain retreat is much like creating a coastal retreat in that, when it comes to adding rustic charm, less is more. The wooden base of this table is the perfect mountainous touch in the breakfast room.

Window in front of the vanity? No problem! Just cover it with a mirror. We adore this idea!

Beams are the perfect mountainous touch in this stunning master bath–and the hardware steals the show in these builtins.

Textures and fabrics combine in this room to make it feel luxe, layered and cozy.

Rich hues and bold stripes combine for making the perfect bunk room. This one makes the most of a sloped ceiling.

A mix of light and dark colors makes this room feel warm and cozy but still light enough to be clean and refreshing.

The best part of Cashiers? Why the view, of course! It’s the thing that, no doubt, keeps people coming back again and again. Do you love this Cashiers home as much as we do? Wishing you a wonderful day!
