Y’all, we love Christmas and the whole holiday season.
The lights, the glitter, the sparkle, the colors, the more is more all over the place.
But sometimes you just need a palette cleanser.
So we decided that, in the midst of all the jingle bells and let it snows, we’d take a deep, neutral breath…
And relax for a beat before the madness (and happiness!!) begins!
To us, there is nothing quite as soothing as a neutral palette, especially when it’s mixed with tons of texture,
And a heaping, helping dose of organization, mudroom-style.
This is the perfect place for a late afternoon cocktail with friends, with garland or without,
And this is the perfect thing to wear… Leopard is lovely, but nothing is chicer than neutrals in luxe fabrics with a laid-back attitude. We’d want to wear this every day!
Where’s your favorite place for neutrals?
Thanks so much for making Design Chic a part of your day! We always love it when you stop by!
Great news, Kindle readers!Slightly South of Simple is now available on Kindle Unlimited. If you haven’t started my Peachtree Bluff Series, now is the perfect time 🍑 And, oh my goodness, thank you to all who have downloaded! Slightly South has
The Huffington Post said of Slightly South: “Writers come and writers go, but Kristy Woodson Harvey is here to stay. The warmth, wit, and wisdom of this novel pave her way into the exclusive sisterhood of southern writers.” I’d love it if you checked it out!
Mudrooms are one of our absolute favorite parts of a home. We love the idea of having a place that we can drop all of our things and keep the house looking neat and tidy.
So much so that we are going to add one to our house. We have a big space right by the back door, perfect for creating the ultimate storage area. So we’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what exactly we want to achieve out of this space.
The absolute non-negotiable is big, deep drawers for dropping beach bags, purses and all sorts of various and sundry things that tend to collect by the back door.
And, because there is so much vertical space, we definitely plan on taking advantage with little cubbies up top for baskets. You can never have enough baskets!
A space for fishing rods is a must when you have fishermen in your family.
We love having grasscloth for the backdrop. It adds so much character!
We love pretty doors but are afraid that putting too many of them in the area will make it feel closed–it’s kind of narrow. So we’ll probably just include one to hide the electrical panel and store brooms, mops, etc.
And, of course, a bench is a great part of a mudroom area. It’s perfect for slipping on shoes–and, with the right cushion, adds tons of charm!
We love the way that a mudroom instantly makes everything look so much more organized. We’re so excited!
What a beautiful, calming area right by the back door.
Do you have a mudroom? What are your storage area must haves? Thanks for stopping by!

Good morning, friends! We hope you had a fantastic Martin Luther King Day. We always pack those little bonus days off from school with lots of activities and fun. I think I look forward to them as much as my son does. So we were both really bummed out that he had a sore throat. (Well, to be fair, it was much worse for him than it was for me since he was the one that had to be sick!)
He met his reading goal of 1,000 pages this month–I know, 1,000. First grade is not what it used to be!–so I was going to take him to Lowe’s and Dank Burrito, which was what he had requested if he met said goal.
Yes, Lowe’s is my first grader’s favorite store. He likes to build anything and everything. Unfortunately, I had to do the responsible mom thing and say no to burritos and boards. (And torx screws. He taught me what those were.)
But, today is a new day, and we’re saying yes, yes, yes to this lighting! Demure in the dining room? Never!
From the flowers in the sink to the perfect pendant light, this kitchen is positively dreamy.
In these designs, as in life, it really is the little things. The instant chicness (and practicality!) of a library ladder in the kitchen,
A statement backsplash that says, More over, subway tile,
And a fume hood that the kitchen wears around like a jaw-dropping piece of jewelry.
Hammel does a twist on tradition so, so well,
And makes even the most industrial of spaces an experience.
Speaking of experiences… Have you ever? A reading nook fit for a princess! We think we’d like to curl up in one of these! But not on a sick day. Maybe on a burrito day. After a trip to Lowe’s. Whatever your favorites are, we hope you get to do them all today!
Thanks so much for stopping by Design Chic. We love seeing you!
My new novel, The Southern Side of Paradise, releases May 7, 2019! While you’re waiting, catch up on the series with this great sale at Barnes & Noble!
From internationally bestselling author and “rising star of Southern fiction” (Mary Alice Monroe, New York Times bestselling author) Kristy Woodson Harvey comes the third novel in her Peachtree Bluff series, in which a secret threatens the tight-knit bond between a trio of sisters and their mother.
With the man of her dreams back in her life and all three of her daughters happy, Ansley Murphy should be content. But she can’t help but feel like it’s all a little too good to be true.
Meanwhile, youngest daughter and actress Emerson, who is recently engaged and has just landed the role of a lifetime, seemingly has the world by the tail. Only, something she can’t quite put her finger on is worrying her—and it has nothing to do with her recent health scare.
When two new women arrive in Peachtree Bluff—one who has the potential to wreck Ansley’s happiness and one who could tear Emerson’s world apart—everything is put in perspective. And after secrets that were never meant to be told come to light, the powerful bond between the Murphy sisters and their mother comes crumbling down, testing their devotion to each other and forcing them to evaluate the meaning of family.
With Kristy Woodson Harvey’s signature charm, wit, and heart, The Southern Side of Paradise is another masterful Peachtree Bluff novel that proves she is a “Southern writer with staying power” (Booklist).
