In Good Taste: M & M Interior Design

Good morning, readers! Florida friends and everyone affected by Irma, you are in our thoughts and prayers and we hope you can get back home–too minimal damage–very, very soon.

We all know that home is one of the most important foundations of our lives, and that being away from it can be difficult. One of the things that we love most about M and M Designs, owned by the talented sister duo Leslie Martin and Kim Meardon, is that they don’t just create beautiful houses. They create homes that feel eclectic and collected, perfect for everything from entertaining to playing with kids.

These huge windows add tons of light, a feeling of openness, and, quite frankly, a big, fat design challenge. These designers totally rose to the occasion, making these windows the asset that they are.

What an idyllic little office! It’s the perfect space for paying bills and the window seat not only adds comfort but also storage, which is great for filing all those papers that tend to pile up.

This kitchen feels like home. Every detail is perfectly choreographed–from the rug to the lamp to the wood island–to make this large, functional space feel cozy and comfortable.

We know open floor plans are what most people want right now, but we still love our rooms to feel separate and distinct. This charming opening between the kitchen and adjoining room is the best of both worlds!

If a nursery for one is good, a nursery for two is even better! The use of this space is perfect.

From the rug on the floor to the Bla Blas on the bed, this is the perfect little boys room that, with a couple of tiny changes, will still be perfect when he’s a big boy!

We love playrooms, but multi-purpose spaces are really the best. This chic room works well for kids and adults alike.

Speaking of multi-purpose spaces, this darling settee is kid friendly with a sweet ballerina on top, but will work just as well when she’s more into lipgloss and texting than dolls and tea parties.

What is your favorite M&M Design space?

Thanks so much for stopping by Design Chic today! We always love seeing you here!

We love, love, love a chalkboard wall, especially in a playroom. It’s an inexpensive fix for larger walls that breeds creativity.

We grown-ups love our reading nooks. Shouldn’t our little ones get their own too? This one would make even the most reluctant reader want to spend an afternoon in a fictional world!

Playroom art doesn’t have to be expensive. Little ones love seeing their own masterpieces hanging.

One of the most important elements in any playroom is the floor space. And, of course, cute places to put everything away when the play is finished!

In Good Taste: Summer Thornton Interior Design

Summer Thornton

Last week, we had the best time touring one of the most incredible dental offices (that did not look like a dental office at all) designed by Summer Thornton.

This week, we’re going outside the office and checking out Summer’s good taste inside the home.

One of our favorite things about Summer’s designs is her use of color.

Each room feels fresh, light, bright and never overdone. We love yellow! And we really love a chaise. So the combination of the two couldn’t be better.

This is an example of how a statement light fixture can totally transform a room.

The color of this bar cart is phenomenal. All of the touches in this room are totally luxurious.

This is black and white done right. Summer transformed this nook into a destination.

A gold fume hood? Yes please!

Who thinks of a stairwell as a fun cheery spot you don’t want to leave? We sure don’t! But this stairwell is that and more.

Now, this is a closet! Is there a better combination than hot pink and leopard?

It seems like stunning closets might be a Summer Thornton specialty!

A luxurious bathroom is such a treat!

What a sweet little girl’s room!

Talk about a nursery that grows as he does! Well, they might have to get him a little bigger car eventually… But, otherwise, it’s perfection! Don’t you love the good taste of Summer Thornton? We knew you would! Thank you so much for making Design Chic a part of your day.

Slightly South of Simple Around the Web:

We loved seeing Slightly South of Simple on vacation with our friend Fabiana from Ciao! Newport Beach!

Also, if you want to know a little more about my new novel, SLIGHTLY SOUTH OF SIMPLE (Simon & Schuster, April 25, 2017) take a peek at the video below! (It’s only like 90 seconds. No major commitments here!)

House Tour: 1953 LA Abode

It’s a little dreary and gray around here today, so we’re feeling like taking a trip to LA, where it’s sunny and bright! Fashion stylist Jessica de Ruiter and her husband, artist-designer Jed Lind, are too kind to welcome us into their fabulous modern LA home via One Kings Lane.

This chic interior is modern living at its best.

Unconventional windows offer plenty of light to make the indoors feel sunny and bright.

A sleek and minimalist kitchen incorporates luxe details to lend a calming yet stylish atmosphere.

Open shelving displays daily necessities right at arm’s length. Earthy and simple dishware like this always looks organized and is in perfect keeping with the tone of the house.

Gallery walls are always a favorite touch of ours. But who says they have to be symmetrical? We adore gallery walls like this one that are full of special trinkets with meaning.

A gorgeous office is always great. A gorgeous office with a view is even better!

Comfortable and earthy, this bedroom blends seamlessly with the outdoors.

The blend of textures in this fabulous bathroom adds so much interest in dimension.

A little girl’s bedroom doesn’t have to be pink and full of princesses. This one offers tons of space for an imagination to grow.

Speaking of imagination, this play area is perfect!

Books, art and costumes… What else could a child possibly need? We adore this precious playroom

From top to bottom, kids’ spaces to adults’, this modern LA home is nothing short of totally chic. What do you think? Are you a fan of modern living?

Things We Love: Reading Lamps!

Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles

Mom and Dad are redoing my playroom. I know what you’re thinking:. That’s so rude; They should keep it as it is forever as a shrine to their daughter. I completely agree.
