Natural Seating for Every Space

Serena & Lily wicker chairs in Beaufort beach house

Good morning, dear readers! We are thinking of you so much as we all social distance and are so grateful for the connection of our online community now more than ever. What a gift it is to be able to communicate with all of you every day!

We are encouraged by the generosity and selflessness of our friends, of the way communities are pulling together for the common good, by the arrival of spring and by the promise of summer, right around the corner.

We are using this found time to catch up on some decor projects around our houses, namely organizing, streamlining and sprucing for the warmer weather ahead! Case and point? This sweet bedroom nook got a springtime facelift with these natural chairs, pillows, throws and darling basket from one of our very most favorites, Serena & Lily.  We adore the chic yet relaxed look of these cozy chairs and have already spent so much time curled up with them. This has already become our favorite home school spot!

The fun thing about natural seating is that it doesn’t have to be terribly involved. Just adding a chair or two lends an entirely new look to a whole room without undertaking an entire makeover.

We couldn’t love our chairs in the natural shade any more,  but this indigo is positively fantastic also.

This is one of our favorite chairs in Serena & Lily’s current line. It is such a throwback to a classic beach house, updated for today.

And these stunning chairs completely define this dining room, making every meal an event.

We are big, huge fans of hanging chairs anywhere, but especially in places like this where seating is needed but a view needs to be preserved.

We love this piece so much…

That we featured this natural bench in our guest room. It lends an instant beachy look and is a piece we have loved more and more as time has passed. It is durable, convenient seating that created an instant sense of “finish” at the end of this bed.

Natural fibers couldn’t be more perfect anywhere than in a nursery. They are wonderfully gender neutral and make the transition from nursery, to toddler room, child to teenager, effortlessly. How many pieces can say that?

We have to say, we couldn’t love this swing (And pillows! And basket! And floor pillow! And throw!) any more in our playroom. A hanging swing made a difficult-to-decorate attic slant easy and whimsical, perfect for kids and adults alike. As we hunker down in our houses and spend more time here this spring, what could be better than that?

DON’T FORGET THAT EVERYTHING IS 20% OFF WITH CODE AT HOME!

Thank you so much for dropping by during this chaotic time, friends. We’ll continue to be here to (hopefully!) make your days a little brighter, a little more beautiful and take you somewhere new, if only for a little while!

A Chic Seaside Retreat–With Plenty of Southern Charm

seaside entrance

The Secret to Southern Charm has officially out in the world. You can pick up your copy at your local bookstore, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Target or online at Amazon or any of your other favorite retailers. In the meantime, we wanted you to explore the home of my interior designer main character, Ansley Murphy, and get a little better feel for her aesthetic.

We picture Ansley’s aesthetic to be light, bright, streamlined and coastally chic.

In the historic, fictional town of Peachtree Bluff, Georgia, Ansley designs not only the yachts coming in and out of the harbor, but also the historic homes that line the picturesque downtown.

When Ansley’s three daughters come home–grandchildren in tow–that can only mean one thing: lots of family dinners! This is just the type of comfortable yet chic dining room that Ansley would love.

In her own home and in her redesigns, Ansley’s aesthetic is very natural with well-chosen pops of pretty colors. This green and yellow is absolutely lovely.

Wide-plank hardwood floors and windows that let in plenty of light are hallmarks of some of Ansley’s prettiest redesigns.

Of course, with all of those kids home, Ansley’s bedrooms are getting quite a bit of use! We picture this as the perfect master retreat where Ansley can get away from it all…

And a sweet blue color palette is perfect for soothing Sloane’s nerves while her husband is deployed.

A chic–and a touch Bohemian–canopy bed would suit Emerson, the youngest, actress daughter’s personality to a tee. We love the mix of antique and new!

But the best part of Ansley’s house? This gorgeous, waterfront porch, of course, where she can sit with her daughters and her mother and sort through all the big decisions they are making over the year that will change their lives–and their family–forever.

We want to thank you for being such loyal readers of Design Chic and hope that you will take the time to read The Secret to Southern Charm. It’s perfect for lounging beach- or poolside or a gift for Mother’s Day, graduation, wedding guests or bridesmaids!

Don’t forget to pick up your copy of my latest title, The Secret to Southern Charm from your local bookstore, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, or anywhere books are sold!
