Top Ten Favorite Kitchens with Pendant Lighting

Bakes & Kropp

Good morning, chic readers! We hope you are having a fabulous day. Today, we are dreaming of school getting out, summer days on the beach and… pendant lighting! (Not necessarily in that order.)

Bakes and Knopps

You know that we think lighting, more than most anything else in a home, has the potential to totally change the look and feel of a space.

Bakes and Kropp

Nowhere is that more true than the kitchen, where lighting is so important for a functional work space–and where opportunities for accessorizing and really making the space your own are fewer.

Whether you’re looking for lighting with a shade that stands out a little from the rest of the color scheme,

Or lighting whose color blends in but still makes a fabulous, bold statement, the right pendant can totally transform a kitchen.

One of our favorite elements of a kitchen island is the ability to hang pendants over top. But, even if you don’t have an island, pendants are super chic over a dining table. We actually think a pair–or more–of pendants can be an even more beautiful look than a statement chandelier.

These pendants combine fabulously with these bar stools to contribute to the overall industrial vibe of this kitchen.

Metallics always add a hint of glamour, a touch of sophistication that’s a little less over the top than a chandelier. We absolutely adore the touch of gold inside these bold, white pendants.

Speaking of metallics, why try to make the chain blend in when it can absolutely shine! We love how these pendants connect with the fume hood for a totally custom look. What is your favorite style pendant? Do you prefer one that blends in or is made to stand out?

Thanks so much for making Design Chic a part of your day!

top 10 blog post of 2018

Happy second week of 2019, wonderful, amazing readers! We want to thank you so much for making 2018 our biggest, best year yet. May 3, 2010 Mom and I posted our very first post, on natural fiber rugs, thinking that we would keep this little spot on the internet for a year, tops. (For the record, we love that first bedroom we ever posted, designed by the Suzanne Kasler, just as much now as we did then.) Eight and half years later, we have grown from two followers (Dad and Will) to hundreds of thousands, and we look forward to being here with you every single day! We are always thinking about what you are loving, what you aren’t, what’s new, what’s next, and what makes our hearts beat a little bit faster. We are thrilled to share our most popular posts of 2018 with you. Thank you for another amazing 365 days in the books. And here’s to the next eight and a half!

All the amazing people of Salisbury, NC were so supportive and encouraging when I was growing up and continue to be so now. I am so proud and honored that my books, THE SECRET TO SOUTHERN CHARM and SLIGHTLY SOUTH OF SIMPLE, were #1 and #3 on Rowan County’s 2018 BESTSELLER LIST. Thank you, thank you to Wendy Persse and everyone at South Main Book Company for handselling my stories all year long—and to all the readers everywhere who allow me to keep doing what I love year after year. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Salisbury and Rowan County! There really is no place like home!
