House Tour: Steeped in History in Greenwich, Ct

There is something about a white house with black shutters (bonus for a slate roof!) that draws us right in. Every time.

And, in the case of this Old Greenwich home, we’re certainly glad it did.

Merging the past and present with considerable aplomb,

This is a home that wows with style, but is still comfortable enough for the whole family.

Beautiful built-ins in the family room,

Blend in harmony with the gorgeous kitchen cabinets, creating just another touch that makes this home feel seamless and cohesive.

This lovely desk takes full advantage of the stunning view beyond the windows, making this the ultimate writers’ retreat.

This is giving me major excitement about getting back into my house. We’ve reset the tub to take maximum advantage of the view. I can’t wait to be soaking just like this!

We just love the way the hardwood floors lead out onto the slate onto the grass and into the water. The transition is perfection!

There is absolutely no doubt that outdoor design is just as important–if not more important–than indoor decor, especially with a yard and view as stunning as this.

We can’t imagine a more peaceful spot for relaxing at the end of a long day. Wishing you blue skies and calm seas just like this today!

Thanks so much for making Design Chic a part of your day. We love it when you stop by!

The brilliant way that the right paneling, the right molding and the right accents can make even a new house feel like it has a sense of history

The stunning portfolio of Ike Kligerman Barkley Architects never ceases to amaze us.

Their work proves that the little things–like figuring out how to make the very most of a small space–are actually everything.

From indoor spaces that capitalize on both a charming slanted roofline and a killer view,

To a chic porch that doubles as the ultimate living space,

To a multi-purpose indoor/outdoor space with so much personality it almost has a pulse, these architects have a knack for creating truly unforgettable spaces

We need a vacation in this exact spot, immediately if not sooner!

Because the only thing better than unforgettable indoor spaces is their outdoor counterparts.

In Good Taste: Cynthia Hayes Interior Design

Cynthia Hayes Interior Design

Good morning, chic readers! We hope your Tuesday is off to a terrific start. If not, all of that is about to change!

Cynthia Hayes Interior Design

Cynthia Hayes and Pamela Manchester of Cynthia Hayes Interior Design have created a bevy of eye candy to brighten even the dullest Tuesday!

Blonde wood, natural fibers, lots of light, and fabulous lighting to boot…

Cynthia Hayes Interior Design

These spaces utilize neutrals–complemented with plenty of texture–to create an oasis-like feeling.

Cynthia Hayes Interior Design

These designs are, to us, simplicity at its finest, spaces that complement the outdoors and focus on the natural beauty all around.

Pops of color enliven the entire space and natural elements prove that accessorizing can be easy!

Even the Cynthia Hayes Interiors laundry rooms are in good taste. Baskets are our absolute favorite way to keep organized. Do you use them?

Cynthia Hayes Interior Design

We love wood on the floors…

But wood on the walls is a fun alternative and achieves the same feel, especially in bathrooms where tile floors are super easy to keep clean and germ free–a real concern during flu season!

Cynthia Hayes Interior Design

Pretty patterns in light colors add so much interest to walls. We love the touches of blue.

Cynthia Hayes Interior Design

Slanted ceilings can be so charming, as this twin bedroom proves. We love the molding and extra touches here. Looks like the perfect place for a sleepover to us!

Cynthia Hayes Interior Design

No matter how gorgeous the inside, you know the outdoor spaces are always our favorites. You can’t get more classic than teak chairs with white cushions. This looks like the perfect spot for whiling away a summer day. It will be here before we know it!

Thanks so much for stopping by Design Chic today. We always love seeing you here–and hope you are recovering from the post-Super Bowl exhaustion!

Finding the Perfect Bench for the End of the Bed

blue and white bedroom
Robert A M Stern Architects, Steven Gambrel Design via AD

So many details go into making a bedroom feel warm, cozy, restful and relaxed.

The linens, of course, are critical.

The curtains are key.

And, if you’re lucky enough to have a sitting area, making it comfortable and spa-like is a priority.

Right now, one of the things we’re looking for is a fabulous bench for the end of a bed. Well, at least we thought we wanted a bench… But now that we see this loveseat we might be rethinking things since this one is so charming! Furthermore, Phoebe Howard always gets it right!

The great thing about the end-of-the-bed bench is that so, so many things work really well.

A pair is charming and sweet–and perfect for two people to put their shoes on in the morning.

If you’re not the curl-up-in-bed-and-watch-TV type, a little settee is another great spot to watch or read or relax before turning in…

While a small bench at the end of a twin bed gives a finished touch, especially when you don’t want to use a footboard, we love trunks for toy storage at the end of twins as well!

I have a little French bench in a fun fabric like this at the end of my canopy bed. Don’t these chairs look positively luscious? Pale pink is such a soothing accent color for a bedroom.

It seems like the fun–and really, really hard–thing about picking seating for the end of a bed is that you really can’t go wrong! These little leather director’s stools are so charming. We love, love them for a boy’s bedroom, or a guest bedroom like this one. With all these choices, we were originally thinking of doing an upholstered stool at the end of the guest bedroom bed, but, taking the TV watching into account, now we’re thinking about something a little more comfortable because of all these great rooms.

What would you choose–or did you choose–for the end of your bed?
