Happy second day of 2020, friends! We hope your brand new decade is off to a terrific start and that your resolutions are going great–if you made any, that is. (Of course, we think you’re perfect the way you are!)

Here in Beaufort, we celebrate New Year‘s twice, once at 7 pm and once at midnight. At 7, disgraced pirate Captain Shack walks the plank covered in the ill humors and bad intentions of all the people of Beaufort.

He jumps and washes out to sea, as does the negativity of the year before, making way for a fresh beginning. (To be clear, it’s a fake pirate…) It’s such a fun symbol of letting go of the past to make way for the future. Plus, there are bonfires and s’mores, so that’s a bonus.

When it comes to fresh starts in the New Year, I bet quite a few of us begin in the kitchen, clearing away the clutter (and the candy!) of the old year.

If you’re looking for some kitchen inspiration to start your 2020 off right, look no further! This year’s Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles kitchen design winners know more than a few things about what’s new, what’s next and what’s fresh in all things kitchen.

We are love, love, loving seeing lacquer in these beauties.

And chic organic elements are always welcome. They give this kitchen a distinct feel.

Brass is still happening,

Bar stools just keep getting cooler (and more distinctive),

And, of course, space for family and friends and plenty of warmth defines these gorgeous rooms, which are the heart of the home to say the least. We’re taking notes, making lists, and getting lots of ideas for a 2020 refresh in our own kitchens. What about you?
