The Southern Side of Paradise: Jack’s House

Hamptons Cottages & Gardens

Good morning, readers! The Southern Side of Paradise officially released on Tuesday! It’s so exciting. We have had a fun-filled few days meeting lots of readers and signing tons of books–and the fun is just beginning! (More tour info at the bottom of the post.)

The Secret to Southern Charm is set in the charming Peachtree Bluff, Georgia, a tiny town with a cast of quirky characters with Ansley Murphy, a widowed interior designer and mother of three daughters, at the helm.

One of my favorite characters in the book is Ansley’s long lost first love come back, Jack.

In an effort to win back Ansley’s heart, Jack buys the house next door, the one he knows Ansley has dreamed of decorating for most of her life.

And he enlists Ansley to turn his charming historic home in Peachtree Bluff’s downtown into a bachelor pad with plenty of style. (Enough style that maybe it won’t be a bachelor pad for long…)

We imagine Jack’s redesigned home to look a little like this fabulous one from Hamptons Cottages & Gardens.

Vintage maps and antique wood add that masculine feel that every good bachelor pad needs.

Traditional colors and a mix of old and new furniture help maintain the integrity of the historic house with updated charm.

If Jack’s plan of winning his way into the Murphy girls’ hearts works, there will be plenty of activity in his kitchen.

With a light and bright breakfast room, he can serve lots of guests.

Simplicity is one of the main tenants of this character’s life. We think this open shelving would suit him perfectly.

Neutral doesn’t have to be boring, as is evidenced by this room.

Touches of wood, even in unexpected places, add a hint of that British Colonial feel that Jack was looking for.

Varying shades of blue define the color palette throughout the home but provide enough variety to be interesting.

This navy nook provides a perfect crash pad for guests–or reading nook for catching up on the latest books.

This fun take on subway tile is a fabulous touch!

Jack’s white picket fence is the perfect finishing touch to a beyond charming exterior. Looks like this charming house is no different!

If you haven’t met them yet, I absolutely cannot wait to introduce all of you to the characters in The Southern Side of Paradise!

House Tour: Ansley’s House – Peachtree Bluff

Peachtree Bluff entrance hall with arch

Good morning, chic readers! Thanks for all you did yesterday to make the launch of my fifth novel, The Southern Side of Paradise, so amazing! I am overwhelmed by all the book love!

The Southern Side of Paradise - Peachtree Bluff dining room

If you’re new to my Peachtree Bluff Series, you should know that my protagonist, Ansley Murphy, is a designer in a tiny, Southern coastal town on the Georgia coast.

The Southern Side of Paradise- Peachtree Bluff living room

Fictional Peachtree Bluff is full of gorgeous historic homes–made even more beautiful by Ansley’s trained hand and skilled eye.

Peachtree Bluff living room

One of the most fun parts of writing for me imagining what the homes in my novels would look like. Ansley’s is that perfect combination of old and new, traditional and modern.

Peachtree bluff kitchen

We imagine that she gets a lot of her design inspiration from a real-life Georgia design icon: Suzanne Kasler

Full of soothing blues and crisp whites,

Stunning architectural details and great views,

Suzanne’s work is totally exquisite and positively timeless.

bathroom Peachtree Bluff

We can imagine Ansley retiring to a tub just like this after a long day of dealing with the drama of the three grown daughters back under her roof. (And bathing her young grandsons in it too!)

blue and white bedroom with beams

This beautiful bedroom with its charming sitting nook is the perfect place for Ansley to have one of her signature, brilliant mom talks with one of her struggling daughters. (In The Southern Side of Paradise, there’s a pretty good chance it would be Emerson!)

And this vibrant, cozy space would be perfect for middle daughter Sloane. (Right down to the “S”!)

Bright colors and a whimsical hanging chair add the perfect touches of coastal fun.

porch overlooking the ocean

If you’ve “been” to Peachtree Bluff in Slightly South of Simple, The Secret to Southern Charm or The Southern Side of Paradise, you know that the porches are the most important part of the homes there. Ansley’s house is no different. If you’ve read the series, is this what you imagined Ansley’s house to look like?

The Colors of Paradise

Collins Interiors

Good morning, chic readers! We are CELEBRATING today because, today, my fifth novel and the final book in my Peachtree Bluff Trilogy, The Southern Side of Paradise, releases!

After more than a year of writing, editing, promoting and, yes, picking the cover, it is so exciting to see the book come to life out in the world.

As you might imagine, I am a very visual person, so covers mean a lot to me.

I am so fortunate that my cover designer at Simon & Schuster is a genius–and came up with more than a dozen too-gorgeous-to-be-believed covers for me to choose from. I had the hardest time deciding which one fit the story best!

Meg Braff Design

Ultimately, it came down to something pretty simple: the yellow. The cover I chose has a yellow hat and a yellow title, and, I don’t know about you, but I am loving yellow lately.

That yellow is combined with the perfect hot pink…

I sent this Gray Malin photo for cover inspiration. Water, sand, vibrant hues. It just feels like summertime, doesn’t it?

Like this. I wanted a cover that would make my readers feel like this

And these are the bright, bold hues to do it.

The Southern Side of Paradise

I think they nailed it, don’t you? If these aren’t the colors of paradise, then I don’t know what are.
