Here’s What’s Next from the Murphy Women:

From internationally bestselling author and “rising star of Southern fiction” (Mary Alice Monroe, New York Times bestselling author) Kristy Woodson Harvey comes the third novel in her Peachtree Bluff series, in which a secret threatens the tight-knit bond between a trio of sisters and their mother.

With the man of her dreams back in her life and all three of her daughters happy, Ansley Murphy should be content. But she can’t help but feel like it’s all a little too good to be true.

Meanwhile, youngest daughter and actress Emerson, who is recently engaged and has just landed the role of a lifetime, seemingly has the world by the tail. Only, something she can’t quite put her finger on is worrying her—and it has nothing to do with her recent health scare.

When two new women arrive in Peachtree Bluff—one who has the potential to wreck Ansley’s happiness and one who could tear Emerson’s world apart—everything is put in perspective. And after secrets that were never meant to be told come to light, the powerful bond between the Murphy sisters and their mother comes crumbling down, testing their devotion to each other and forcing them to evaluate the meaning of family.

With Kristy Woodson Harvey’s signature charm, wit, and heart, The Southern Side of Paradise is another masterful Peachtree Bluff novel that proves she is a “Southern writer with staying power” (Booklist).

Lake Michigan Cottage Renewed

renewed beach cottage

“Renewal” must be one of the most beautiful words in the English language.

flowers

It conjures images of fresh flowers growing after a long winter, new babies born and that much-needed (but often far too seldom taken) time for ourselves.

summer cottage

Summer, for us, is always a time of renewal, a time to relax the schedule at least a tiny bit and focus on more fun, less work and, of course, no school!

renewal

More time with friends and family, longer days and shorter to-do lists help provide that much-needed renewal for us.

Just like we do, our homes can begin to get a little tired, not only from basic wear and tear but also in the ways in which we adorn them.

This beyond charming Lake Michigan cottage was ready for a bit of a facelift.

And, in the hands of Chenault James Interior Design, it certainly found its new life.

dining

A bright and sunny palette instantly breathes new life into a space, and nothing says “fun” like yellow and green.

Old furniture gets new sense of purpose with fresh paint, making the entire space feel fresh but still maintaining a treasured home’s history.

Nothing adds character to a beach cottage quite like wood paneling.

But painting it makes the entire scheme feel lighter and brighter.

Simple touches like these yellow floors add a vibrant element.

And fun hints of the color bring joy into the bathroom.

Even the laundry room has loads of personality! We couldn’t adore this Lake Michigan home–and its chic, effortless combination of old and new, any more. Renewal, indeed!

Wishing you a wonderful day, chic readers. Thanks so much for making us a part of your day!

House Tour: Jack’s Peachtree Bluff Beach House

Good morning, chic readers! With the first week of The Secret to Southern Charm tour behind us, we are just taking a moment to thank you so much for all your support–and celebrate!

If you’ve read any of the Peachtree Bluff series then you know that Ansley, one of my protagonists, is an interior designer.

And she has dreamed of decorating the house next door to her grandmother’s–hers now–since she was a teenager.

Conveniently, her first love, the man who has swept back into Peachtree Bluff and complicated her life inexplicably, has bought the house next door and, as the story unfolds, Ansley gets to design this house, that she has dreamed of for so long. Here’s a little peek at what she says:

I was sitting at the dining room table, sipping my first cup of coffee of the morning and sketching a room—something I hadn’t done in quite some time.

Over the past several years, I had created mood boards for my clients so they could see exactly what furniture, fixtures, and fabric I was contemplating for their rooms.

But I knew already that Jack would let me have free rein, and sketching the rooms I was designing was how I best dreamed them.

I liked to think I was drawing them into life.

This gorgeous home from Connecticut Cottages and Gardens is very similar to how we picture the complete redesign of Jack’s house that Ansley undertakes, classic but refined, elegant and understated and just right for a grown bachelor, even though, later, Ansley admits…

I gazed up at the stunning canopy bed with the ethereal white curtains I had copied from Phoebe Howard. The walls were a light gray, on the lavender side so they felt warm, not steely. It probably wasn’t a color I would have chosen for Jack the bachelor. It was a color I had chosen for me, a color I had chosen for our life together. As I lay there, feeling totally at peace, I finally admitted that, all this time, I had been decorating this house for me.

Wishing you a wonderful day!

Slightly South of Simple-Inspired Historic Remodel

Hamptons Cottages & Gardens

Good morning, readers! It’s the day after the big day. Slightly South of Simple officially released yesterday! It’s so exciting. We have had a fun-filled few days, signing early copies at the Codarus showroom at High Point Furniture Market, throwing a joint launch party/SPCA fundraiser in Kinston, NC and officially launching at the 92nd St. Y in NYC–with a pre-party at our fabulous new friend July Galloway’s gorgeous home. Tonight we’ll be at the Society Social Showroom, 73 Spring Street, from 6:30-8:30. Come say hi!

Slightly South of Simple is set in the charming town of Peachtree Bluff, Georgia, a tiny town with a cast of quirky characters with Ansley Murphy, a widowed interior designer and mother of three daughters, at the helm.

One of my favorite characters in the book is a McDonald’s franchise owner turned handyman/bike refurbisher, Hippie Hal.

As Ansley says, the man may wear a piece of rope for a belt, but he has taste.

And he enlists his friend Ansley to turn his charming historic home in Peachtree Bluff’s downtown into a bachelor pad with plenty of style.

We imagine Hippie Hal’s redesigned home to look a little like this fabulous one from Hamptons Cottages & Gardens.

Vintage maps and antique wood add that masculine feel that every good bachelor pad needs.

Traditional colors and a mix of old and new furniture help maintain the integrity of the historic house with updated charm.

Hippie Hal has a lot of useful skills, not the least of which are in the kitchen.

With a light and bright breakfast room, he can serve plenty of guests.

Simplicity is one of the main tenants of this character’s life. We think this open shelving would suit him perfectly.

Neutral doesn’t have to be boring, as is evidenced by this room.

Touches of wood, even in unexpected places, add a hint of that British Colonial feel that Hal was looking for.

Varying shades of blue define the color palette throughout the home but provide enough variety to be interesting.

This navy nook provides a perfect crash pad for guests–or reading nook for catching up on the latest books.

This fun take on subway tile is a fabulous touch!

Hippie Hal always has a few bikes in his front yard. Looks like this charming house is no different!

I absolutely cannot wait to introduce all of you to the characters in Slightly South of Simple

Things We Love: Organization

kitchen
Andrew J. Howard

Did you know that we love organization? Did the fact that we post about it all the time give it away…? It goes without saying that the spaces we post are incredible and over-the-top and gorgeous. But, in addition to all of that, they’re so sparkling and clean and organized!

We don’t know about you, but we’re needing a little spring cleaning inspiration! And I need a reminder of how much I adore those beautiful, full, straight jars… not a package or box or piece of junk in the bunch!
