Good morning, our wonderful friends! We hope you had a terrific weekend and are planning for an amazing week ahead. One of the most fun things about being an author is getting to travel to fun places.
I had the privilege of visiting one of our always-favorite cities, the gorgeous Charleston, SC, a few weeks ago to appear on Lowcountry Live and Your Carolina. It was just a few days before Christmas, and, despite my love for Charleston, I was a little sad to be away from home so close to the holidays.
But the minute I walked through the front doors of the gorgeous Dewberry, one of Charleston’s newest (and, believe you me, best) hotels, I felt my spirits lifting. This is the beautiful bar where I had a delicious dinner.
The entire hotel is designed in midcentury modern style updated perfectly to bring it seamlessly into today.
Eating is one of my favorite things to do when I travel, and I have so many favorite restaurants in Charleston that it’s hard to choose just one. But the Dewberry’s kitchen created a stunning meal that could rival any of Charleston’s finest eateries.
And the cocktail list is second to none!
Because it was so close to Christmas and I was feeling a little sorry for myself…
I snuck in a little time at the spa. And, at the risk of sounding redundant, it was perfection! Very, very relaxing, a spot of calm in the chaos that can be the holidays.
But of all the great parts of the Dewberry experience, the rooms might very well be the best.
From the Irish linens to the room service menus ensconced in soft leather not a single detail is overlooked.
It’s easy to see why I was so sad it was such a quick trip!
It’s safe to say that I have a new favorite Charleston spot, and I can’t wait to visit again in April on the Slightly South of Simple book tour!
If you’re in the area (or just want an excuse to stay at the Dewberry) I’ll be speaking on Saturday, April 29 at one of my favorite downtown restaurants. Details to come!
Even if you don’t have the chance to stay at the Dewberry when you’re in Charleston you must stop by the Garden & Gun Fieldshop to procure a trinket to remind you of your trip. I went home with Duck Fat Caramels, Pappy’s Handmade Bourbon Balls, a leather tool roll for hubby and G&G editor David DiBenedetto’s book. But that’s just the start of the perfectly cultivated collection of treats in what is without a doubt one of the chicest lobby shops we’ve seen. All in all, as you can imagine, we highly recommend The Dewberry if you’re heading to Charleston.
Do you have any cities on your 2017 travel bucket list? Where do you think we should visit this year?
Good Morning Girls,
A new week and hopefully full of fun and new adventures. MC and I will put the Dewberry on our Bucket List of places to go!

There is nothing more wonderful than a grand hotel, where everything is beautifully designed for comfort, and luxurious pampering. Such gorgeous rooms, and that bathroom? Perfection.
Researching our “home away from home” is generally the second most important thing I research when we go on buying trips for our antique shop {the first is, naturallement, where the best antiques are!}
What a beautiful treat for the eyes on this soggy Monday in California. There is almost nothing I love more than to stay in a wonderful hotel. My husband and I are planning a trip to South Carolina later this year. You just made our hotel choice very easy! Thanks so much!
I love Charleston and will have to check out the Dewberry…It looks truly amazing…and oh that bathroom!
Perfect timing…we will be going in February to Hilton Head and Charleston is a visit…hmmm…now, we may have to “Dewberry” it…Luv my “Garden and Gun” magazine..Julia Reed is a must read!! franki
We’re celebrating a big birthday this year and Charleston is on the list! Thanks for such a great review – what a beautiful place.

I love a gorgeous hotel and when I make it to Charleston I definitely plan to check out The Dewberry. Thanks for sharing such lovely hotel.
My favorite city!! I was down there two weeks ago and I am headed back in a couple more to help with my niece’s new baby. I need to check out The Dewberry – I have definitely been hearing a lot about it!! My 2017 travels – other than Charleston! – are Switzerland and Italy in the Spring. Have a wonderful week, ladies!! xoxo
I love Charleston and hope to return there one day soon. I will certainly try The Dewberry Hotel as it looks marvelous! Thanks for the introduction.
I am dying to visit Charleston and now have even more reason! Looks amazing and the Garden & Gun shop sounds amazing!

Just added The Dewberry to my list of “Must Visit Sooner Than Later”! Maybe Rachel and I can take the train down and stay there for your book tour. 🙂
