Good morning, chic readers! We have such a treat for you today. The incredible Karen Williams of St. Charles New York has taken the time to share about her inspiration, her biggest accomplishments and, of course, the big question: whether she likes M&Ms or Skittles. We hope her answers brighten your day as much as they did ours!
1. How did you get started as a designer?
I always had a passion for classically designed homes and architecture, as well as renovating houses. I decided to pursue this dream by going to FIT in New York City, majoring in Interior Design.
2. Where do you get your inspiration?
My main source of inspiration comes through my travels, as well as fashion. I’ve always felt as though interiors and fashion go hand and hand. Other sources could be through interior design magazines and social media.
3. Do you have a favorite project to date?
My favorite project is always my next project. I’m always focusing on what I could do differently and how I can incorporate that into my next design.
4. What is the biggest challenge you face as a designer?
A big challenge as a designer is helping your client interpret a functional and cohesive design that incorporates their needs, while still standing true to their expectations and budget.
5. What do you consider your biggest accomplishment to date?
My biggest accomplishment to date is the launch of the new St. Charles New York collection.
6.Are there any designers that particularly inspire you?
Jean-Louis Deniot as an interior designer, for his eclectic and classical design. For overall design, I am very inspired by Diane von Furstenberg and of course the late, great Zaha Hadid.
- Go-to paint color?
A great go-to is Farrow and Ball’s “Cornforth White”
- Ebooks or hardbacks?
Hardbacks
- M&Ms or Skittles?
M&Ms
- Coffee or tea?
Both!
Thanks so much for making Design Chic a part of your day. We always love seeing you here!
