If you are California dreaming this morning but can’t get there, we’ve got your back! This Portola Valley stunner by Mark D. Sikes is the absolute perfect escape–even if it’s only from your living room.

From first glance, we could tell that this would going to be a charmer with some of the chicest parts of a traditional home combined with a laid-back vibe.

There is something super cozy and just eclectic enough about the entire space, that makes it seem like the kind of place families can gather and friends can relax.

And, of course, especially these days, work from home is more important than ever! And this super chic office looks like the kind of place we would love to sneak off and check off that to-do list.

Storage is always at a premium, and Sikes creates it in style here, showcasing the client’s most beautiful pieces.

There is is again: that laid-back, lovely style. This is the kind of kitchen where meals are savored and great talks had. We can just feel it!

When we talk about dream spaces, a special nook with a gardening sink and plenty of room for gorgeous floral creations is always on the top of the list.

This lovely, light-filled dining room is incredibly chic

And the perfect way to have that outdoor feel when it’s nice out but close things off when the weather isn’t right for dining al fresco.

Positively dreamy.

We would love to be guests in this sunny spot!

A perfect place for soaking off the stress of the day…

And an ideal spot for daydreaming, cap off this enviable California home in utmost style. We could move right in. What about you?

Thanks so much for making Design Chic a part of your day. We always love seeing you here!

Two childhood friends discover that love—and family—can be found in unconventional ways in this timely, moving novel from the USA TODAY bestselling author of the “beautifully Southern, evocative Peachtree Bluff series” (Kristin Harmel, NYT bestselling author of The Book of Lost Names).

Recently separated Amelia Buxton, a dedicated journalist, never expected that uncovering the biggest story of her career would become deeply personal. But when she discovers that a cluster of embryos belonging to her childhood friend Parker and his late wife Greer have been deemed “abandoned,” she’s put in the unenviable position of telling Parker—and dredging up old wounds in the process.

Parker has been unable to move forward since the loss of his beloved wife three years ago. He has all but forgotten about the frozen embryos, but once Amelia reveals her discovery, he knows that if he ever wants to get a part of Greer back, he’ll need to accept his fate as a single father and find a surrogate.

Each dealing with their own private griefs, Parker and Amelia slowly begin to find solace in one another as they navigate an uncertain future against the backdrop of the pristine waters of their childhood home, Cape Carolina. The journey of self-discovery leads them to an unforgettable and life-changing lesson: Family—the one you’re born into and the one you choose—is always closer than you think.

From “the next major voice in Southern fiction” (Elin Hilderbrand, #1 New York Times bestselling author), Under the Southern Sky is a fresh and unforgettable exploration of love, friendship, and the unbreakable ties that bind.

  1. Gorgeous home. I want to say that it drives me crazy with the drop down adds. Have to erase them to even see the beautiful pics. Is it just me or does everyone have this problem? Can’t they just advertise on the side? Drives me absolutely crazy! I have been a fan of Design Chic for years and years.
